Collection head count.
on: May 22, 2011, 01:11:10 PM
I was curious at what the current tally would add up to, so I did a quick head count of only the multi-tools. I only lumped tools together if I had enough from one manufacturer. Otherwise, they went into the miscellaneous section. Here are the results...

Leatherman: 208
Victorinox: 13
Buck: 10
SOG: 33
Bear & Son: 17
Multitasker: 15
Gerber: 70
Schrade: 8
Tool Logic: 5
Kershaw: 4
Swiss Tech: 15
Miscellaneous: 137

Total count of 535.

Yikes...  :ahhh

I have several more cap crimper Leathermans from Sazabi whenever the backorder comes through on his end.

I'm going to go right ahead and suggest your obsession is covering for some deep trauma or illness.

The responsible thing for your loved ones to do would be to call the psyche (or shaman, whatever they've got up north.) and get proper treatment.

Kershaw only made one tool, so do you have 4 a100 tools?
That is a lot of leathermans, what about no name china tools. How many of those you got?
13 victorinox tools, how disappointing :)

I would stop trying to psychoanalyze Sea Monster...you're not that good at it.  :salute:

scrappy, Victorinox hasn't made that many different models. As for no-name tools, they were added into the miscellaneous along with other name brands.

Get the swiss tool models in each plier head version, that is more than 13 :) that is a lot of multitaskers for only a couple models but I know you have prototypes

How do you keep track of them?  Do you log them in a spreadsheet or something similar?

scrappy, not actively hunting the Vics. I do tend to go in waves though. For a while, I was focusing on Bear & Sons, another time, SOGs, etc. I do want to get one of everything Leatherman...but I know this is impossible. Still something for me to aim for.

Yes, a lot of those Multitaskers are prototypes or unique items.

Sea Monster, I have quite a few high quality items in that 137 grouping. Not all that is made in China is trash, nor are they all made in China. I do have pieces of utter junk though...and I do buy cheap pieces when I come across them in stores. Sometimes, I am pleasantly surprised at the quality for the price.

You want pics? Just do a search of my name on this forum. EDIT: OK, why not. I haven't taken a collection photo in some time...but you might be sorry you asked for pics.  :ahhh

gustophersmob, I keep track of them by designating certain drawers for certain manufacturers. I have a good memory, and haven't taken the time to catalog them other then in photographs for this site.

oddly enough, I know what I have on the multi-tool side of things. I do get a little confused at times if I am looking at a particular tool on eBay, I may have to take a physical look, but everything is in its place so it is all easy to find.

Now on the SAK side of things...I truly don't have  much of a clue anymore as they literally look the same in a drawer.

I should do a proper inventory some day.
