Tornado slams Joplin Mo

Joplin is about an hour and a half west of me. Lots of damage and several fatalities.

89 reported dead now. And we have more severe weather moving into the area. The same storm that hit Joplin last night went South of us by 10-15 miles or so. It still had a strong "hook echo" when it came close to us but no reports of major damage. The area South of us is rural. I personally don't know anyone in Joplin but my wife does and thankfully they are all present and accounted for.

I was reading up on that storm over my lunch break.  Scary stuff, it literally looked as if a nuclear blast wave came through.  To all our friends in the midwest, stay safe!!

This has got to be the worst tornado season ever in US history. The death toll rises to 114/115 now.  :(

Here's some before and after pictures of Joplin. The tornado that tore through there was rated as an EF-5, among the most powerful. The death toll is now 155 people.

The death toll continues to rise because of a fungal infection that has affected some survivors. It's a fungus found in soil but usually it's not a problem but with the massive amount of injuries and the nature of the disaster it's been a major problem.
