Q about LM bit extender
on: May 28, 2011, 07:14:19 PM
I was interested in the ability to use regular bits on my LM, I know that you just can modify a regular adapter to fir LM´s bit adapter, but I wanted a non magnetic one. As I havent been able to find one, I was inquiring on the LM extender.

I have searched the forum, youtube and other review and multitool sites, and I havent been able to i¡find an answer.

so...

if anyone has one, has reviewed one, has seen one, can you tell me if it is magnetic or not.

another option is to recommend me a non magnetic adapter that I could modify for the LM´s bit adapter.

tnx

It's non magnetic. It uses a round spring around the inner hexagonal perimeter of the adapter.

great, then I shall add it to my list.

I really like non magnetic stuff for EDC, as it wont damage sensitive stuff and I tend to carry things thightly packed.

thnx to both of you guys.

Yeah, i agree. It was the same person :-). I would also add the bit kit to your list. I love my bit kit. I have the surge/Bit Kit/Extender. The extender can use both standard bits and the leatherman bits.

Chapman Manufacturing makes some real nice tools. I have several of their sets. Their bits and bit extender are non-magnetic. The bit extender can be modified just like the magnetic extenders to work with your Leatherman bit adapter.

I like mine, I just wish it didn't have a slight wiggle when it's inserted on my Charge AL. I've gone through two Charge AL's and 2 of the bit driver extension and I guess that's just how it's made. I'm tempted to put some glue in there to get rid of that wiggle.

tnx Randy, thats a good link. I shall take a deeper look to that too.

Jules, maybe a bit of macgyver magic? I fixed a fountain pen (Rotring) that had already a loose cap. I lined the interior of the cap with a "washer" of duct tape. Now the cap fits snugly and doesnt fall off. I found that in a pen forum, and even though they say that you might need to change it periodically, mine is still around for 2 years.

maybe lining the inside of the bit adapter can make a sung fit?
