A nice find with a weird side benefit.
on: June 05, 2011, 02:06:48 AM
I was at one of the local bulk stores when I saw this dusty box on one of the top shelves. It turned out ot be a Jelly Belly mini bean machine. After looking at it, I thought it would be neat to have one of these in my living room. After a little more looking, I found that the store had a good assortment of flavours...so I bought enough for a first fill.

Now when I got home, I was surprised to find out the machine works with quarters, and is solid metal and glass. I have seen plenty of these type of machines for home that don't accept anything and work by simply turning the knob. This one dispenses 5 beans per quarter. I realize that this could be a great way to save some quarters and get a little something in return. So now, I have my quarter banking machine.

Oddly enough, I'm not often truly jealous of the goodies posted on these boards - but this is definitely one of those times. That said, I'd be struggling for quarters this side of the pond so I'd just end up getting frustrated ;)

Great find  :tu:

Unscrew that top nut, and the bottom falls out with a long metal rod that goes right through to the top. Dang, I already have 4 quarters in and non left to spare. Sigh.  :D

I believe there's a shop in Halifax that sells those machines, or similar, and we were tempted to get one last time we were in Canada... maybe this time...
The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.

In my youth I actually made a gumball machine in wood shop. I think i might still have it somewhere.
