Gerber MP400 Compact Sport
on: June 01, 2011, 01:39:58 AM
The Gerber MP400 Compact Sport is one of my favorite Gerber multi-tools. This smaller family member to the equally liked MP600 offers a lot in a compact frame.

From left to right: MP400 Compact Sport, MP400 Terminator T3, MP400 Corkscrew, MP400 Advertiser, and MP400 Fisherman.

The first is the bog standard MP400. The BO MP400 T3 is a special edition for Terminator 3. It is the same as the standard, with special markings on the handles. The MP400 Corkscrew adds the wine lovers favorite tool to the standard version, with the necessary handle cut outs and hardware to support this feature. The Advertiser offers one side of the handles with a solid surface for slogans and such (minus the diagonal cut outs). The Fisherman is a dedicated fishing multi-tool with fixed tweezers and a file with hook groove and elongated needle nose pliers.

So there you have it, the MP400 family, or the 5 that I currently have.

Nice setup Chako.  Is this the complete series, or is there more on your shopping list?         :)

Very nice! I just got my first MP, an MP50 through a trade with Mercury. It's the same as the basic MP400 except for a file instead of scissors. I've only had it for a few days, but it's made a positive impression so far.

Nice roundup indeed. Not my cup of tee but they are decent tools. I prefer the 600 or diesel.

I like the corkscrew,  did they leave anything out to fit it in. Looking at the first two MP400s it looks like its an extra rather than a swap.

Thank you  :tu:

Now the question should probably be, why buy one without the corkscrew (unless your chako then buying them all is essential )

The corkscrew model is hard to find, at least up here in Canada. I looked for most of a year before I got lucky.

Speaking of 400 corkscrew models, awhile back I found one, NIB, with the long fisherman's plier head. Not a catalog item, it was probably an "oops" on the assembly line.

Nope, no diamond file. :-\ It has the standard Compact Corkscrew blade set, but with a Compact Fisherman plier.
