Amici,
I just picked up a new puukko for the collection. This knife is from Kauhava, Finland's puukko making capitol, and was designed as well as made by Harri Merimaa. The handle is 4 1/2" and made of stained Birch with a Reindeer Antler Tipped pommel. The blade is 4 1/8" in length, and is of high carbon steel with a rating of 0.8%, 59 on Rockwell.
The sheath is individually handmade of natural tanned reindeer leather hide, and a traditional belt hanger with a clasp to carry the puukko as well as a kuska, the traditional drinking cup.
Ironically, the puukkos sheaths leather matches almost to a "T" a sheath I recenlty had made for my Leatherman Wave..
I'm now looking forward to trekking once again into the bush for a few days now the summer's is here with this Dynamic Duo. Together, these will be sufficent to meet just about any challenge.
Cheers,
Serge
