Car museums (not modem friendly)
on: June 13, 2011, 04:53:50 PM
OK, so I got, after a looong time, a picture account so that I can post some decent sized pictures on the site and not have to post 4 each time.

I try to visit car/airplane/army etc museums, when I can, so I will post some pictures (I have quite a few, you just have to love digital cameras) from a couple of museums and if there is interest I will post a few more.

These were taken from the, old, Porsche museum in Stuttgart.

I know what you mean, I was going round that car, in the museum, for ages. It has looks, history, quality..It was one of the main reasons I visited the museum (I went to the porsche museum for the 959).
When my SRM knives go up in value I might just get one!

Many thanks to all.  :salute:
The Mercedes museum is huge; I spent 2+ hours in it and I could have easily spent a whole day there. It´s great that you can actually get close to the cars and see and touch them, there is no fencing.
Porsche now has a new museum, which should be much better. Both museums are close to train stations.

I was angry with myself because I did not take my external flash with me, so I had to use the camera flash, something that really limited the quality of my pictures.

I will see if I can post some more, different, pictures later.

These are from the Brussels car museum; really worth a visit. Only problem is you can not get close to all the cars.

These were, unfortunately, taken with a smaller Canon camera, an A480 (really good camera actually), in the evening, as my SLR of the time was supposedly getting repaired.... It still is... As with multitools, if it breaks get a new one, unless you are in the States its not worth trying to get it fixed… but I digress …

or

some funny ones..

The real beauties ......

My favourite...

Would I go again????? YES, YES, YES...!

You feel really privileged, to be able to be in the same room as these cars....  :D

they're some fantastic museums and excellent pics mate. :tu:

I actually got to try one of these many years ago (still long after the project collapsed though) and I've got to say it was great fun.  Scary as heck in heavy traffic I'm sure, but still fun. :D

I don’t think I could fit in it, and would probably need to be lifted out of it.You can see how small it looks next to that Cadillac.
However, most lowish sport cars would feel small next to that car too.

In a way, its spiritual successor seems to be that two wheel gyroscopic contraption you sometimes see in big buildings, the segway.

The good thing about being in the UK, like you are, is that there seem to be classic car meetings everywhere, so you can see museum quality cars every weekend; you are quite lucky.

Here are a few I took in one such meeting, over a decade ago. These were taken with a disposable camera, as for some reason I forgot to take my camera with me.

Went for a drive today and stopped at a car museum, here, owned by a legendary local rally driver, who was there too and had a chat with us. Good bloke!

Buses like the one one the left can still be found in operation (they change the engines )
All pictures were taken by my phone as I was unprepared and just though about going there as I was passing by...

Cool pics. I will have to revisit them on a bigger screen later.  It's cool to see the Amphicar there, considering I encountered one just last week at work.

The last lot makes you realise how good phone cameras have become. I am using a non-zooming camera, 8M, from a mid range phone, in  a shed, with variable and not bright lighting, no flash and the pictures are still good enough to show you the cars.
