ParaTool got me messing around with oldschool SOGs (PowerLock an earlier..non-fixed plier).

Left to right.
Early ParaTool, later ParaTool, early PowerPlier, Later PowerPlier, early PowerLock pre-patent, early PowerLock 2.0, PocketPowerPlier pre-patent(made in Edmonds WA), and PocketPowerPlier (made ib Lynnwood, WA).

I'm always amazed at how well these older SOGs were built.  :)

Took a $37( $30+$7 ship)gamble on Ebay with no photos of toolset. I saw the shortened handle covers(some have the shortcovers to allow using the drivers at half stop w/cover shut), so I knew it was one I didn't have. To add icing to the cake, it was BO, and I didn't have a BO PowerLock. It was listed as used with sheath. Received it today and am thrilled. It is a Black Oxide PowerLock Traveler. The traveler is bladeless and quite expensive when new. The tool has not been used and everything is the way it should be.
The BO is still fresh enough my fingers are a little black. So, that is a good thing, as that means it wasn't used much (if at all).

I haven't had the best luck on Ebay lately, so this was a welcomed surprise. Should make an excellent shelf queen. :)

I am just excited about it. :woohoo:

 :ahhh :like:

that's a rare one to find, and when somebody asks (quite frequently in the forums) for a bladeless tool I always spit out the classics (Victorinox Jetsetter, Gerber Dime, Gerber Bladeless MP600, etc.) but I never mention this one because it's really expensive and hard to find,  :P

so you got an excellent price on a very cool tool!!!

It is crazy the Traveler (PL w/o blade and added Robertson driver) cost almost twice what a regular PL does. :ahhh
I mean, $40-$50 more for no blade and a robertson driver? SOG SOG SOG.

A Paladin Tool PT-540 made by SOG.  Issued to all the field techs at work.  This one is very handy for telephony, and IT work.  The punch for 66-blocks, and Bix-blade saved me quite few extra footsteps.

Thanks!  I don't know if this 'multi' is still being made.  It's almost indispensable for IT work.

I think it's discontinued,  :P
sadly because it's a sexy looking, tough and functional tool  :gimme:

IMO, older SOGs were the kings and epitome of SOG quality  :salute:

I'm tempted to agree with that last statement. Just got this Pocket Power Plier (I think), an auction win. I think it was a steal at €30 including shipping. Pretty good shape, the blade and implements looks essentially unused, the pliers are lightly used. Anyone know a date (range)?

Thanks Fuzz :tu:

Although: current? I can probably go with 'last available'... no such product on the SOG site as of now.

Any idea about dates?

I've given it a bit of a clean and it really is almost pristine. Small scratch on one plier jaw and one on the blade tang, is all. I'm chuffed :D :D

Not sure about dates, but I got my last one about 2010-ish and that was still the old style pliers and solid hex screws, so after that? TP might know?

It's an excellent tinkering sort of multitool, if you know what I mean.  :tu:

Also, just noticed that yours has got a plain blade, which is excellent, somebody's swapped that in as they normally come with the crap chisel ground part serrated one.  :tu:

Might as well post pics of my one. I swapped out the file and ps blade for plain blade and saw (had to remove a teeny-weeny amount of stock from the back to get it to fit).

I am inclined to believe that one is second generation (first Gen being PE blade, round end file, no lanyard ring, second Gen being PE, squared end file, lanyard ring, new style head and screws, and third Gen being 50/50 blade, squared end file, new style head and new pivot screws, lanyard ring ) that is, not the first but not the latest one.

But I am not sure  :ahhh :dunno:

Thanks TP... that would put it around which date?
If mine originally came with a lanyard ring, it no longer has it...

BTW here I went hoping for a better file than on the PAD. It is, just slightly, but not much...  ::) No LM or Vic quality by far.
Cheers!
