Just bought myself a stainless steel box chain/necklace so I can carry the Spyderco Bug knife around my neck  :mail:
I was carrying on the chain with my dog tag but
I don’t always want to wear the dog tag all the time
And I wanted something better looking
than the ball chain like the one for my tag  :D

Are you going to have it on a clip, or will you need to take the chain off to use it?

Not thought of a clip
I was going to leave the Bug connected to the chain
But I really like your idea of the clip AW

Voice of experience  I have several tools on a paracord neck lanyard that I often wear. On there is an Alox Rambler, whistle, pen, tweezers, light, and eyeglass. The eyeglass is on a clip, and the tweezers and pen are removable too. The eyeglass sits on the breastbone, around nipple height, then there's a section of snake knot below that, with the rest of the tools at the end, which all sits around the solar plexus. This gives me just enough scope to use the Rambler for quick tasks without having to remove the lanyard. As the lanyard is adjustable (I can tighten it up a bit after putting it on), I can let out another 4" or so should I need a little extra distance. The whistle only needs to go as far as my face.

If you're wearing the Bug around pendant height, you'll probably be glad of the clip, unless you want to wrap the chain round your hand to give you a bit more purchase on the knife. Also, if you put the clip on the knife rather than the chain, so the knife comes away from the chain with the clip still attached, that'll probably give you a bit extra to hang on to, to minimise fumbles.

Thanks AW that sounds good  :like: :tu:
The chain I am getting is 36” long so a clip would be a good idea
Especially if I don’t like having to hold the chain whilst using the knife
But I will see if I can find a small clip for the knife

So after receiving these today:

H3 fog light bulbs:

One broke while testing it.

And being really disappointed with the light they give...honestly not much more than a diode would give.

Garbage

I decided these would not be going on my car, build quality is mediocre and light is crappy....well I only paid around €1 for a set of 4...so I guess you get what you pay for.
These honestly look like something someone made in their garage somewhere.

So I grew a pair and ordered a higher quality set instead:

I have had good experiences with S&D LED lights before, so I will be giving these a try.

Just from the pictures it looks like there was a lot more engineering put into them, and the LEDs are placed exactly where the halogen bulbs have their glow thread, which should work a lot better as that’s how the factory reflector fog lights are designed to reflect light.

They show them used in different cars as well..

I also wanted to upgrade my reverse lights, so I went with a set of these from the same company

Looks good in the pictures too at least...

But we will see how they look and work once they get on my Jeep.

If you are scratching your neck right now about my purchase, then I will say that if you live in a Forrest area where it usually gets really dark, you need good lighting. Anyone who lives in a Forrest area would know what I am talking about.

I don’t plan yet on adding a lightbar in front of my Jeep, but that may change at a later point.

Well I only paid around a €1 for a set of 4....I kind of had a gut feeling it wasn’t going to be quality that I would receive

But yeah, fingers crossed these new ones will be a different experience

Something to consider is that unless you are actually driving in thick fog, the extra bright pool of light just in front of your car that is thrown by properly adjusted fog lights actually reduces your ability to see thing further away from your car (fallen trees, animals etc).  Most people think any extra light helps, but in this case it doesn't.

A wide angle light bar (or good driving lights) would actually help see potential dangers much better than any fog lights.

Fog lights don’t shine far away?

The idea of fog lights is to light up the ground right in front of the car where the headlights can’t shine.

Especially handy if you are driving in the snow or mud

Possibly.  I responded the way I did because you were fiddling around with fog lights but you said:
Quote
if you live in a Forrest area where it usually gets really dark, you need good lighting. Anyone who lives in a Forrest area would know what I am talking about.

I have done extensive driving at night on rural highways where kamikaze kangaroos and suicidal wombats frequently lurk on the verge, just waiting their chance to do severe damage.  In my experience you need reasonable penetration (throw) straight ahead, but more important is good illumination to both sides of the road, but it must be far enough out so you can stop if you need to.

Fog lights just don't cut it for that purpose as if properly aimed they don't go very far ahead, and if aimed higher they will just dazzle all oncoming drivers (a very common and very annoying problem here in Oz), but still can't provide good vision where you really do need it.

That was why I suggested a light bar or good wide angle driving lights would give you better vision.

If I got it wrong I apologise.

No you didn’t get it wrong, and you are correct in what you are saying.

In all honesty, I was pretty tired when I wrote that post, and reading it again myself, I’m not too sure what my point was.

I think what I was trying to say was something in the line of; it’s important to have good lights when driving through a dark forest....and then I think I wanted to say that the fog lights are important for lighting up what’s right in front of you, below where the headlights can’t shine.

Something like that at least.

Anyway....moving on...
