Amici,
I recently picked up a third Mora the #137 which has a 4 inch carbon steel blade that is full tang through an unpainted birch handle as well as a decent quality leather sheath. I als had treated with a wax/mink oil combination to make it water resistant and actually this process makes the sheath look 10 times better as it darkens with each application.
Some thoughts on the #137, although the blade is the same length of the Mora #2, there are a few differences. First, the handle on the 137 is slightly smaller than the #2. And second, the spine of the blade is finished and polished to a high sheen unlike the #2 which is left pretty much in the rough. Also, the blade seems to be slightly thinner than that of the #2.
The #137 is a tad more expensive than your standard red painted birch handled Moras, and if you have huge hands this may not be the knife for you. But if you have average sized hands and appreciate the traditional style Moras but with a little bit better fit and finish without breaking the bank. The #137 may be a nice addition to any Mora collection or better yet, in the field slicing Summer sausage and Cheddar Cheese during a break from the trails.
Cheers,
Serge
