Bison56 Wave Giveaway Review
on: November 27, 2007, 07:11:28 PM
Hi to one and all,

The Original Wave given away in honor of Bison56's Birthday arrived safe and sound.
Thanks again to J-sews, Defender and all who participated in the action.
Where and How does an Original Wave fit in my Every Day Carry scheme?
I have two levels of EDC. What I carry on my person and what is carried in my bag.
My bag is not always on me just nearby.
So critical items, such as my pistol, a tactical flashlight, cellphone, ID and a self defense knife are on me.
Necessary but less than critical items such as my small change, reading material, calculator, medication are in the bag.
Regarding my knives and tools it goes like this:
Tac folder (critical) on me front right pocket.
Also critical for me, because of their frequent usage, are another blade, a Phillips, magnifying glass, scissors and plier .
(corkscrews can openers and the like can ride in the bag but if it's already part of a tool, hey, what the heck?)
I use a SAK Yeoman and a Squirt P4 for those jobs because I have no problem carrying them on me, front left pocket.
The Wave (and many other Multitools) do the Pliers and Phillips jobs even better BUT I have not found a comfortable way to carry one on my belt because of all the other stuff already on my belt.
This bugs me no end (but also gives me an excuse for having  both a SAK and a multitool. The SAK is always on me.The Multi is in the bag.)
( By the way if anyone knows a good front horizontal holder for a Surefire tell me! If the Surefire moves up front I'll have the spot for the Wave.)
So how does the Original Wave rate in my book compared to other Multis ? Very good indeed.
I don't especially care for the newer bit holder system in the New Wave. I prefer the Old Wave one piece Phillips.
Even better is the Phillips like the one in the Zytel handled Fuse. It's a little bit longer giving more reach
AND if you do like the additional bit acccessory business,it works with that also.
The Phillips on the Swisstool which is longer and accessible from the outside is my favorite Phillips in any Multitool.
One hand access in general is nice and convenient but not really critical for me. When that's called for it's probably a job for my Tac Folder .
Locking components are more and better on the New Wave but the Old Wave has a lock on the blade components.
Ease of opening individual components is better in the newer Leatherman tools, but I can live with this as is.
So I find it to be a quite respectable Multitool better than my Fuse by having more tools but with a slightly shorter Phillips that doesn't lock.
Better than the Swisstool I've had opportunity to use by being lighter to carry but not as heavy duty as the Swisstool.
So,as usual every tool has its better and worse points.
Figure out what you need and make your pick.
I know, I know, "buy 'em all" you say, but you need the dough,
and even if you have the money...you still gotta decide "which will you carry today?" .
December 3rd-don't forget to toast Bison56 !!!Shalom

I'm glad to see it made it there safely and that it's found a good home!

Use and enjoy your Wave in good health. If all our quandries were as pleasant as deciding how and what to EDC,the world would be a much better place.

Good to know that it reached you safely Shalom, and thanks for the EDC report!

As there was no sheath available for the Wave you received, do you have one from another tool or knife that will fit it properly?
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

I  have a sheath that fits it well.
Thank you for asking.
Very good packing and shipping.
Delivery time ,7 days to my door (in Israel), is very quick. (2 weeks is what it usually takes, and once a package was lost!)
Thanks Again
