Need help ID'ing a Gerber

I just got this little guy in the mail this morning. It's basically a Gerber Clutch, but in different scales. Does anyone know anything about it?

I looked at Gerber's site, and at www.gerber-tools.com and I can't seem to find anything about it.

Thats kind of cool looking, there is another one on ebay as well. Maybe it was a limited run? or an early one? or a prototype?

It's amazing how a change in scales can really alter a tools appearance

, maybe it was part of the prototype run

, certainly the grips on your gerber have a strong family resembalence to some others in the smaller gerber line

I have a feeling it's a newer one rather than an older one. It very well could be a limited design as I got it as part of a set, which also includes a Gerber Foreman light and a Gerber Resolve tool.

Well,we know that Clutches are sold in Japan with colored scales not available in the West;this one's likely been made for some market that that type of scale appeals to.

True, but the Japanese ones we saw had the same scales, just anodized differently. These scales aren't just a different color, the shape and cutouts are different.

Def,you got your post in a split second before I did..you're very likely right.A couple years ago at the holiday season Gerber was selling a packaged deal the Shortcut with the Paraframe,and a Shortcut with scales matching the Paraframe would've been better eye candy...not that the lack of eye appeal didn't stop me from buying the combo

Yeah, I'm told that I'm very quick....

Here's the rest of the set is anyone's interested. The light has a white, blue, red and green tip, the "Clutch" and the Resolve all in a nice aluminum box with a clear top. There are also sheaths for the Resolve and the Foreman.

Mais Oui! After some of the lackluster reviews of some of the current issue Gerber models I wasn't sure what to expect with this one, but I have to say that so far, it's better than I was expecting. I'm not too certain about the saw though- the thing is only about an inch and a half long, so I'm not expecting much from that!

I do have to say that the tool feels better than I was expecting it to, which gives me more faith in the newer Gerber models. The Suspension was compared to many cheap knockoff types, and while Victorinox and Leatherman may not be shaking, the Resolve blows the cheapos I have out of the water.

The spring loaded pliers seem interesting, and that will take some getting used to, but I am looking forward to it. Another feature I can't wait to try out is the wire cutters- they are anvil type rather than bypass type, and I don't see that on too many tools these days. I'd like to test them out and see if I can find out why.

Gerber's tools on on their multis do tend to the stubby side.Somebody inside Gerber or Fiskars has apparently seen the light and bring quality up a notch or two,I hope the trend continues.

It was probably made with special scales to better match the Resolve.

I personally prefer the standard Clutch. It looks a little tougher.

Just get a tool with scissors and do it yourself.

I have thought about it a few times! Not actually paid for a haircut this year, keep getting friends/relatives to do it for free, but its getting a bit out of hand for me to trust them with it so its off to the barbers at some stage soon.
