What would you do?
on: July 17, 2011, 08:18:26 PM
I ordered a Juice S2 from amazon for $38 shipped.  Imagine my surprise when I opened the box to find a brand new Juice XE6.  I intended to edc this tool in my front pocket for work stuff in the field- I'm an environmental engineer at a large chemical plant.

Should I hang on to this guy and give it a shot or return it?  It seems a little bit heavy and wide compared to the S2 I handled in a store.  That said, I am not the smallest guy or extremely weight sensitive.  What would you do?

I don't own a juice but have always wanted an XE6, if I were you I would keep it and keep searching for the S2, then you have both or you can sell or trade the one you don't want. Nobody here seems to run into the problem of having too many multi's... Okay maybe most of us have too many but it's all relative.  I'll buy the XE6 from you if you really don't want it but get your S2 before you decide. Have you considered the Vic spirit at all? I chose the spirit over the juice because of the locking tools, but I consider the juice and spirit mostly on par with each other.

Sounds like you hit the jackpot. If I were you I would try it for a while, if it doesn't work out for you, trade it for an S2.

Thanks for the input guys!

You are probably right.  Perhaps the Leatherman gods have sent me a sign that the XE6 is the tool I should use.  Plus, as you said I could always get an S2 later if I want.  As I handle the XE6 a little more, it seems as if I could pocket this regularly.  I think I was turned off a little bit initially by the thickness, but I have to admit it doesn't feel bad in my pocket.

Good stuff Dave, hope it works for you. Let us know how you are finding the XE6 after a week or so.

I'll put another vote in the "Keep It" box. I have an S2 and an XE6, and while I never carried the XE6 (lived in my wife's baby bag for a while) IMHO the extra tools are worth the weight. You can always get the S2 later if the XE6 is too pocket-heavy, but there may also come a time where the serrated blade or the diamond file make you glad for the mix-up.  :tu:

That's like ordering a Wave and getting a Charge.

Or ordering a Kick and getting a Blast.  Even better!

I vote you should keep it!

My S2 came up missing several years ago and when I searched Ebay for a replacement  a great deal on an SC4 popped up.  I had never held one so when it showed up in my mailbox I was very surprised at the how much heavier and bulkier it was compared to the S2.

I decided to carry it anyway and years later I still EDC it.  The extra tools do come in handy in unexpected situations.

If you find that your XE6 seems to bulky in your pocket try using a suspension clip.  I carry my SC4 in the LF pocket of dress pants every business day, but I don't even notice it is there when it is hanging from the clip.

You should probably contact Amazon and tell them a mistake was made and work out the details on what to do about it. The tool they sent you by mistake is much more expensive than the one you paid for.

normally it would cost you $20 more than that.

Pick up a used S2 off ebay too.

Wow this thread has really taken off since I last checked it!!!  Thanks for the input and comment guys.

Anyways, I've been carrying the XE6 around for about a week and I am starting to dig this tool in a big way.  Although it's a bit heavy, it sits in the pocket pretty well and after a few days I didn't notice it at all.  I just wish it didn't have the corkscrew- I don't think I have ever used that tool on any of my SAKs in over 30 years of daily carry.  If I lost that, I think it would narrow it up a bit.

The plier and phillips size makes them especially useful in my daily tasks.  Big enough to get the job done, yet not too big to eliminate more delicate work from it's reportoire.  Of course I am not doing heavy repairs on a regular basis, but for my use it is working great.  I am growing more fond of this tool every time I use it.  You guys were right!!!   :D

I'm sure you can fit the small Vic screwdriver in the corkscrew, making it useful in some way..  ;)

Glad to hear you decided to keep it and give it a try. I was thinking of getting a XE6 but it seemed like it would be to heavy for pocket carry. I normally carry the CS4 in my pocket and do not really feel it. If I have some extra funds I might pick up a XE6 and try it out.

I find S2 a very balanced - function / size wise - tool and pocket carry it almost daily.

But if I am going somewhere and I know I might need to do some work, it's XE6 time. A little heavier and more bulky but it can handle 95% of the stuff I will need to do (minus the hardcore stuff). And I love the serrated blade of XE6!

In my opinion, keep it! And get an S2 too :D
