Shark jumps in boat
on: July 21, 2011, 08:16:45 AM
This happened Monday morning

http://www.thedorsalfin.com/shark-news-stories/3m-great-white-shark-breaches-and-lands-in-oceans-research-boat/

I do a lot of fishing down there during the summer holidays,if that shark jumped into my little 4,5m inflatable  I'm stuffed,if my brother sees this he'll never go fishing with me again  :D
Rest is not idleness,
and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day,
listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky,
is by no means a waste of time

Inflatable boat?  Amateurs....

National Geographic researchers a few years ago determined that the best way to study Great Whites was in a kayak!

Apparently, as the story goes, since the boat is plastic, there's no food smell so the sharks don't attack them, although the movement does attract them and they will stalk the boat for a bit.  Great theory, but I'm pretty certain I wouldn't want to be the poor bugger that had to test it!  Even after it's been thoroughly tested I'm pretty certain I wouldn't want to do that!

I wonder if it all depends on the color of the kayak. What if it was a pink one? :D

a marine research organisation working in Mossel Bay, got the surprise of a lifetime today when a 3 meter great white shark breached into their research vessel, shocking a field speSmurfpillst and her crew.

Shocking?  Shocking?  Scared the living smurf out of them I'd say! :ahhh

Good on 'em for dealing with it though. :salute:

BTW if anyone's wondering how high a great white can really jump, watch this.

I go in the ocean, just not that far....  in fact, I was wakeboarding yesterday.

And, of course, if I were struck by a shark here, I'd probably wish I was in Cape Town.  At least when a Great White hits you, you are pretty much instantly toasted, while here the blue sharks we have will only take a softball sized chunk out of you, and leave you very unhappy... and that unhappy feeling will get worse and worse as more blues are attracted to the blood in the water from the softball sized hole, and make their own softball sized holes.

I think I'd rather get nailed by a Great White than go bit by bit.

I've had a couple of scary moments like that, they normally just make a couple of turns around the boat and then leave, the crap begins when you start chumming they go into a frenzy and then anything goes, you could easily end up with one on your lap wanting to give you a love bite
