Which SAK is this?
on: December 06, 2007, 09:12:19 PM
Just seen this on another forum, and I can't find it in the SAK Selector. Anyone know what it is please? It looks a useful beastie. 2 layers, dunno what length but I'm assuming 91mm;

It's what we have dubbed the Specialty Mechanic in SOSAK.  I don't have one myself- guess I should register over at BF sometime...

They are fairly rare, and not current production, I don;t know the real model name or number, but they do turn up from time to time.

Nope.  Victorinox has made hundreds of variations that no one knows about.  Even with all of the members we have in SOSAK, and all the knives that are purchased daily from guys like Tim, we are still stumped by certain variations that show up from time to time.

That's why I created SOSAK and SAKWiki- so there would be one place where all of the SAK info could be accumulated and located easily when folks needed to find it.  As it is, there are bits and pieces of info scattered around the various forums and other sites.  It frustrates me when members of the community choose to share their information elsewhere as it's counter productive to what I was trying to accomplish in the first place, and as far as I can see, just weakens the community a little bit.

That's why when I started Multitool.org I included our own in house forum, and eventually added our own Wiki- it refines the search for info on these types of things even more, and multitools are even harder things to find info on than SAKs.

It's a shame it's not more widly available, as it looks like a very useful model to pair with say a farmer or huntsman :)

Nope.

Much like the original release of the Leatherman E4, it was a limited run thing that was exclusive to Radio Shack... or more or less exclusive anyway.  If they were still readily available, I'd have a few dozen of them! :P

I am certain that Tim could probably put one aside for you if/when he comes across one.

Failing that, contact Bill (Scibeer) and see if he could crank one out for you.

Thanks for the replies lads :) Might have to get Tim to keep an eye out...  :D As Micky says it looks like a nice compliment to another model.
