Anybody has one or used one?

How do they feel; can you write with them and carry them easily, or, do they feel like novelty, large, pens?

Are they really a speSmurfpillsed self defence tool (I know that most objects can be used in self defence, if needed) or just a gimmick?

I have never seen one, apart from at online shops, and I was wandering about them. I just like gadgets....  :D

I saw the CS Sharkie yesterday, it's a huge permanent marker, and I mean HUGE. No way I'd be carrying one of these in my pocket, people might think strange things about me.

Many thanks to both; from the replies they seem to be more popular/available in Europe, rather than overseas. I am tempted to buy one, they are under $10 with shipping so the cost is not huge....

Though, they do look a bit like sex toys....

The CRTK one looks more "normal"  :D

I have a tactical pen made by Fox, has the dimensions of a regular pen and writes well. The steel tip can be replaced by a plastic one, for use as a stylus.

They're goofy looking as heck and tend to be pretty heavy.  Might as well just carry a Fisher Bullet, they do much the same thing and you get a better pen out of the deal.

Any well built metal pen , and a few cheapies will do the same job . I can tell you that on Old skool carpenter's pencil will also work .

So, disregarding common sense and the advice of fellow forum members, I got one which arrived today (at a top secret location). Made in Taiwan.

It is bigish (~ 17cm) but usable, with bigger hands.

Not too heavy.

Looks normal; like a big marker, without any suspicious points or scratching areas, like some tactical pens. However, from my research, women would be embarrassed to carry it…
If you could remove the shark picture and have it in a grey colour it would look even more normal.

It does not feel especially heavy, to me.

It is not the easiest marker to open since the cap screws in with quite a few close threads. Also, it has some sort of rubber ring  (feels like it has at least..) which makes the last few twists, when putting the cap on, feel extra tight, so it closes quite securely and is unlikely to open accidentally. By the way it feels during these last twists, it is probably waterproof.

It can be used for quite hard and painful strikes to the knuckles.

It only looks strange when you take the cap off, since the actual point of the marker is quite fine, whereas looking at it you expect a thick point.

Finally, there does not seem to be a way to replace the point / refill / change the cartridge, so if it runs out you had it.

Fine point
