Am I the only one who watched this? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260825647735&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Yes, I know, the Luxury Motorist is a rare model, but.... $153?  :ahhh

Can't say that I have. I restrict myself to the Canadian eBay side. Too many goodies on the US side and most won't ship up north.

I have seen that collecting SAKs is a lot more expensive then it has ever been in the past. Prices are increasing. I tend to view my collection almost as an investment then as a side distraction from multi-tools these days.

Oh and I don't think it is a Luxury Motorist but "just" a Ranger with technician's screwdriver :)

I don't know anything about the auction or the model but this thread title is hilarious. A fourth generation euphemism :salute:

Came here to say this. A luxury motorist has a phillips, not a corkscrew, and the long nail file. This knife is unusual, but not as rare as that price would make it seem. Esp with the original scales removed and replaced with black ones. I've picked up 6-7 of these over the years, usually for less than $30. This was just a case of two guys wanting the same thing at the same time, and neither of them knew how rare the knife was (or wasn't).

I've learned one thing in buying knives on eBay for a couple years - don't pay too much; there will always be another. Always. Apollo 11 Commemorative? Four have sold in the last year. Space Shuttle? 16 in the last two years. Luxury Motorist? 6 in the past year and a half. SwissFlames? 16 in the past year. XXLT? 31 in two years.

In all my time collecting, there has only been one knife that I've seen come up for sale exactly once - the SwissChamp XL. I was lucky enough to get that on a BIN before anyone else saw it. Other than that - there will always be another.

+1 Jazzbazz.

And Reiner, you and I had literally rubbed shoulders looking at it. I was going to bid $30 on it when it was $15, answered the phone before posting the bid, and got told there was another $30 bid on the table.

Some fool came in there...I had bid on it, too...and then it kept going up and up.  Someone wantd it worse than me. :twak:

I think the winner is from France....there is a collector from France who out-bid me the last time this seller had an original Outdoorsman NIB-OS from the 1970's.   And he went WAY high he wanted it so bad.

I have bought stuff from the seller before......recommended. :tu:

There is an XXLT on there....I capped-out at $300.  Some one bid $5 over me....guess he will win it.
XXLT is rare...but, I have other plans.

I did win a 1960's Master Craftsman today.

And I have some other stuff either I won or bidding on now.  I got one of those display cases for $30 (another one is on sale, with the magnets).  Shipping from Miami to my home in NC was over $70....LOL.   My wife told me it is "Huge and heavy" (sounds like her describing her chest, a good thing   )  I want to be able to display my loot, the propper way, and not stufed inside an over-packed Rubbermaid container.

Someone has a post 1987-ish Victorinox store display WITH all the knives...$899 I think....not for me, maybe Chako... :D

So far here in Mesopotamia, I have won: 2x Grand Prix (square Phillips, fine screwdriver, no hook on bottom layer), 1980's Field Master (FINALLY got one!!, yes, no hook, WITH.....can key!!), Huntsman w/ deluxe pouch w/micro-Maglite and compass/thermometer (I only wanted the pouch for my Traveller Lite when I get home), 1960's Master Craftsman, and have 2 more I am bidding or watching.

Hey, I have nothing else better to do on my off-time here in Mesopotamia!!!

Take a SwissChamp XLT, remove the cybertool layer, add a golf divot tool layer. Made for a brief time in the late 90s.

That one was listed as a Climber until the seller realized it was a bit more special.
