Should the awl on a Wenger Traveler have a sharpened edge?

The awl on the Wenger Traveler SAK I bought today lacks a sharp edge.  Is that normal, or a manufacturing defect?

Though the Wenger's awl comes to a point, it lacks the sharp edge along its length as found on my Victorinox SAKs.

UPDATE:  I found the answer at SAKwiki.com.  The edge is not normally sharp.

It's a shame they didn't add that edge with Wenger.
On the other hand I didn't sharpen mine since they don't make them any longer :D

My only Traveler is a Metal 50. It competes with my PX because of the corkscrew.

I don't sharpen mine either, Nick.   Seems like I might be alone on this but I don't particularly favor Vic's awl because of the sharpened edge.    I've bored several holes in wood and leather with both of them and they both perform fine.    Of course, the 93mm works better... and furthermore I have found the Vic 93mm awl to be more tapered and sharpened towards the end while the Wenger is a little less tapered and stocky at the end.    Both 93mm work great, I'd say Vic's is slightly faster.

I like Vic's because it actualy works as a drill.
Yet I REALLY like my Evowood S557 even though it's awl looks like a steel toothpick :D

The only back-layer "awl" I like is the Bernina Punch
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

Did I have to learn about the Traveler? Especially the one in brushed steel. Man but that's a nice looking tool!

It depends if you want an awl or a reamer. Different functions, different tools.
