Alox explorer
on: August 09, 2011, 04:05:07 AM
So I am in the process of making something like an alox explorer. Just by coincidence the thickness of a donor (kindly donated by a fellow member) backspring is just the right size to fit. Now all that's needed is to find the rest of the parts, get some silver nickel rod and put it together. So here's what I have so far.
1st layer knife blade/awl
2nd layer woodsaw
3rd layer metal saw-file
4th layer mag glass/inline screwdriver
5th layer can opener/flat sd
6th layer ? Wondering about maybe the electrician blade and something else.
It will all be in my black alox scales. Although I am looking to get them hard anodized type 3 or whichever is hardest cause the Swiss army anno doesn't hold up that well fir some reason.
What do y'all think. I'll get some pics up so as I can.
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

Maybe on sixth layer electrician blade and combo tool. Scissors would be a great addition if I didnt have a blade. Im sure there are many tools I could fit opposite the inline :) I have done a modded pioneer with scissors just ask Rex (Sazabi) he is the owner of it now.

The inline screwdriver sets opposite the mag glass. Not on top like regular saks. The only stupid question is on that is not asked :D. We are all friendly here.

Yes it will work. Just use the sticky on the mod forum to get the scissors to work and look right.

I just ordered a carbide spade drill. How many holes can you enlarge before they wear out? I'm hoping to get through at least a few knives worth before they need replaced at $9 apiece. I found the diamond burs work in thin things like the knives but the pliers and scissors wear them bare fairly quick.

Nice penny for just one little thing, but it would be all worth it if just one came out just right! JR

You should be able to get from 5 to 15 holes before it starts getting dull.

So put it all together and well....crap. Some of the tools worked and some didnt. So I took it back apart and found that the middle pin was bent.   Maybe thats why they use nickel silver rod instead of brass. Anyone know the difference in hardness?

Ok re-pinned it and apparently the mag glass inline sd is weak. Anyone know how to fix this problem?
