Traditional Finnish Log House Building Process,
(this was posted on UKWorkshop)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3J5wkJFJzE

Fantastic video !

Not understanding the language I was wondering what the brick work under the floor was for and why no chimney  for a fireplace ?

Good question.  My guess is that the stonework is to stop damp rising up the woodwork from contact with the ground.

Of course we do have a one or two Finnish members, so we could always ask them. :D

oops, just re-watched the video.  I'm guessing you mean the the stuff they are doing at around the 17 minute mark.  Could it be some kind of hypocaust heating system?

I have missed this thread completely.

Stone work is for circulating air,  and keeping moisture out. They built also a cellar, to keep food in there. Stone work also helps in that.

As heating goes. They did not mention it any point, or build anything to support it.

Thanks Crow  :tu:

Running down a floating log seems slightly less impressive given you've just seen them chop the thing down whilst standing in a canoe! :ahhh  Very impressive.   :salute:

Seeing them placing the dynamite on the waterfall logjam had me wanting to hide behind the sofa.  As you say; seriously tough guys.
