I should not complain then; they should have cost nearly 140 Euros here, the way cost in dollars becomes cost in Euros with most things.

For that money Zed you can buy a whole set of engraved wooden ones.

Re: OPINELS Brochure

I got this brochure a few weeks back, from the Opinel dealer, and I have not seen this on their site.
Thus, since I enjoyed it, I thought it would be nice to put it here (after getting the necessary permit from the local authorities) so others can have a look.
I did not want to make and post too many pictures and slow down the actual thread, so I apologise for the fact that it will be hard to read the writing; just enjoy the pictures.
I assume this brochure is available at all their dealers.

I could put up better picture in the future if necessary (one picture per page instead of ne per two pages).

Good to hear people like these cataloques  :salute:
You must have been busy using your knives lately Zed, I have not seen you post anything about knives lately. If you want I can email you larger pictures of the cataloque (5Mb) to print/look at; just send me PM with an email address.
My opinels are still untouched and pure...

All this talk got me interested again so I went and got a couple of new Opinels.

The first one is a fancy, for me, No'8 with a polished SS blade and rosewood handle, which I doubt I will ever use.
It came in a nice presentation box with a small velevet bag in it.

The second was a Slim No'12 with a brushed SS blade and the standard Beech handle.
This one I really want to actually use. The blade is very flexible, like a fillet knife but feels robust enough. I resisted the temptation to get it with a polished blade and fancier handle (and about 30% more money), so that I will not feel sorry for it.
Together...

All the stuff I get ends up appearing very nice to me and too good to use....  :twak:
That is why I usually end up cutting things with a Swiss Army knife Chinese clone that I got free with some Energizer batteries ten years ago....

I'm just the same, that's why I mostly carry my (second hand repaired and rescaled by me) beater Spartan and quite often use my cheap torches instead of my nicer ones
And why my Opie has not left the house since I tidied it up a bit  ::)

I etched the blade on my No.8 then threw it in the tumbler for 20 mins or so then sharpened it back up. Here is the results.

Prime,

Nice  :tu:

I guess you removed the blade to work on it  :-\

How easy is it to remove the blade?

It's not too difficult. You pry the locking ring off just enough to it get past the pivot pin and it will slide off. Then tap out the pin and the blade slides out.

So my order from Amazon UK (placed December the 3rd) has not fully arrived yet    so I had to get a few items quickly to give as stocking fillers/presents tomorrow...

2 opinel 2s and a 6. The No 6 locks.

There are some bigger ones (possibly size 4 or 5) too in similar colours with a keyring but for the money they cost you might as well get a No8, a proper knife.

The interesting thing was that their price was the same with or without the keyring. I will say farewell to them soon.. .
