Apologies if I've posted this before. My Opinel 6 in Olive. Nothing I own, nothing, comes close to slicing like an Opinel.

(Image removed from quote.)

So true, they're great for food prep at work! Beautiful photo, pomsbz! :salute:

Yeah, tell me about it! The only knife I own that you can slice a radish so thin you can read through it. This is why all the knives I have now are either Victorinox or Opinel.

I love my Opinel for kitchen prep work.  I have a great little pairing knife but its so fun to use my Opinel.  I used my Diamond Lapidary spray to strop the blade today and I honestly didn't think I could get this blade any sharper.  I am amazed at how wicked this blade is now.

Are they wood with a fancy paint job or a real synthetic?

Wow! No wood swelling when wet.

On the other hand, no sanding down and customizing the handle as easy!!

I like the idea of plastic, but I'd have to find one with a color scheme I'd like.

I got one opinel white christmas snowflakes version.

Also available in grey, but the white looked nicer.

Costwise, it is about 50% more than the standard No7, about 15 Euro instead of 10. The painted wood ones are usually a bit more expensive than the plain wood ones.
Comes with a box.

I also played with the explore model but it was just not for me, 45 Euros.

After Steve's excellent pic yesterday I decided to look out my Carbone No7.  I'd forgotten just how much I like this size.

Has anyone tried stabilizing the wood to stop the swelling? When new I vaseline'd up the handle and baked it in gently and that's given me a year plus without problems but now in the winter it's swollen up again. I was wondering about using something like Linseed/Tung oil on it instead this time to seal in the wood and stop the water getting in. Anyone tried that?
