Don't worry buddy, it's my plain ones that actually see pocket time.  I got into collecting these limited edition models earlier this year, but Mrs R surprised me with this one.

I recently got back into carrying my Opinel after a bit of a layoff.

Since 1982ish, I've had a love/hate relationship with them. I love that they cut like the dickens, and weigh almost nothing. But now and then I get a bit put off by the 'finicky' nature of them, with waxing the joint, adjusting the locking ring, whatever. Then it gets put in the back of the sock drawer and I go back to just my SAK's and Christy knife. I dearly love the Christy with that thin blade that cuts like the dickens. Kind of like an Opinel.

Then I'll dig into my sock drawer in a fit of nostalgia, and carry the Opinel again, and with fresh wonder I marvel at how it glides right through cardboard when breaking down a box for the recycle bin, or opening up a new box of something when the pull tab tears off. Or just slicing a snack off something in the fridge, or trimming back a branch in the backyard. They do really cut like the dickens.

Sooooo, I took my old number 8, made before they messed with the design of the locking ring, and put it on my belt in a nylon and velcro punch sheath by Raine. So light that I forget its there behind my right hip. It seems like as I got older, I worries less about the finicky nature and now rub some wax into the joint ands the better half blow drier to melt it into the wood like its an act of love instead of a chore. Maybe I;ve just slowed down in my retirement and now appreciate old time like things a little more. Like single action revolvers and lever action rifles. I don't even own a semi auto firearm anymore.

Did I mention that they cut like the dickens?
Don't get too serious, just enough will do.

Bought my first Opinel as a souvenir for visiting a place, Walnut #8... Scratch the blade on the first day cleaning it.
Still very awesome.

I know, I know. I used 1000 grit and lightly wipe the blade when I scratch one...
