Recently I was given the Opinel Spoon and Fork set and an Opinel Carve Your Knife. At first I hesitated trying to carve the handle, but I went ahead and carved it and here is the result.

Cool. On my #8 Olive I also sanded a notch by the nail nick.
Drilled a hole for a leather lanyard, simple overhand knot....
Anything else, I'm not really supposed to mess with tools!

I used a Mora Eldris to do the carving and a mill file to round the butt end, then I sanded it and put lemon oil on it. It took me a couple of days.

Looks like a fun project.  It came out nice and I like the easy open addition.  I also did the same on my Opinel.

I agree with you on the regular No 12....they're almost swords!  I prefer the No 8 Outdoor to the No 12.  You really don't gain much blade length with this one (I think it's actually a No 10 sized blade).  The handle is larger, which for larger hands would be nice.  It's also very comfortable to handle.  It's a good knife, but I just don't think you gain much for the added weight and size.  This knife is relatively heavy!  I actually should do a review on it.  I 've never done one before!
