No. 112s in red, yellow, green, and blue. :D  I sincerely hope I'm not missing any colors. :/

[Edit:  Gah, there are pastel colors, too, and a plain one, as well. ._.  You know what, I'll be happy with just these eight - two of each color. :D]

i need a few of these in my kitchen  :tu:

someone asked about the size of a #1 as they stopped making them in 1932 as too small to be any use, i found a pick of a #1 compared to a #2 when you consider the size of a #2 this is small  :o

Heck I think my No4 is a bit to small for practical purposes if I'm honest, so a No1 is just ridiculously tiny.  I'd still not say no if someone gave me one though. :D

gareth i carry a #4 daily and find it ok for small jobs but use the blade on the wave for bigger stuff, my #2 ive put in my first aid kit i carry in my backpack as hopefully it might have a use there  :D not sure where else i would use it , the #3 is also very tiny but i have edc,ed it before in my pocket but worried it would disapear  :ahhh i think the #5 is about the best uk edc opionel wise but i seem to have got stuck on the #4 as you forget it in your pocket untill you need to cut something.Iam hopeing to find a use for most of my opinels , so far, inox #8 is used in the kitchen, carbon#8 in the garden and for camping trips in time, #5-4 pocket edc, but so far #6-7 have not been used yet, i might throw the #7 at the bottom of my backpack as a back up blade  still got #9-10-12 to get  :D

my most used opie so far #4

The No12 is big, but it's a lot more sensible than the No13. :)

Here you go Paul, a No4 next to a No12.  Not ridiculously large, is it?

I just ordered a No 10 and have a question.I know the blade has a high carbon content and tends to rust.I may use it for food prep and wondering if I wipe the blade with a little cooking oil will it keep the rust away and still be safe for food?

Yup!

Be sure to clean and dry the knife carefully after use and re-oil it though WITHOUT just throwing it in the sink or dishwasher and getting the handle full of water  :P My favourite cabon opinel task is cutting apples - it's one of the best folding apple slicers out there  :salute:

I use mine mostly for food, carbon steel just needs a bit more care. The bigger issue, mentioned by 50-trad is the wood handles getting wet and swelling up, making it difficult to open. the handles can be cured apparently with a mixture of turpentine and linseed oil. Someone who really knows what they are talking about should interrupt me here...  :D

I had a stupid idea for an OHO Opinel that I'd like to share - I wonder if you think its possible. The OHO bit would be a spyder hole, and as you move the blade out an extra part of the back of the blade would engage with the lock, turning the lock into place as the blade is opened. Actually its sounding rather impossible now.  ::)

the thumbstud is a good idea. and I guess you could work the lock manually with one hand. I was thinking of a blade mod that would automatically engage the lock as you open it.

Got this at a show yesterday. I wanted a SS one and it was only slightly more expensive than the standard No8. Now I am worried about scratching it.... and want the rest of the set.

and with a 9 and a 12 (Carbon steel)

They also had these, with bone handles, for those that want something different.

I did not buy the bone one, nor did I ask for the price as I was more interested in the various wooden handled ones.
Aparently it comes with dark or light bone and I assume it is widely available, if we have it here.
Get one; it is an opinel so how expensive can it be???  :D

EDIT: I just checked, they are nearly 100 Euro... The way things work they are probably $20 in the US
here is a link, you should be able to figure out the prices
