Is the edge still looking ropey BAS? Have you tried just stropping it to de-fash it, or is it more severe than that?

Stropping didn't seem to help it out at all.  Still haven't gotten around to getting it on a stone

The edge on mine sucked too when I first got it.
Once you get it on a stone then on a strop, it will be come a razor. They are great light/medium duty knives.

Won this kind of by accident on the Bay for $13, it's a No. 8. Excited to finally check one out for myself. I notice that it has a different stamp on the blade than most of the ones I've seen. Is it an older one ?

It is an older model I believe going by the blade stamp.

My No.8 arrived today. It's in really great shape with a nice patina, I don't think it was even used much. A couple swipes on my Lansky turnbox and it's razor sharp. I guess the collar on these older ones don't lock the blade when closed so I added a bevel with my grinder so that it locks when closed. I may drill a hole for a lanyard later.

Cool knife and sharp as you know what  :tu:

The patina was kind of uneven on the blade so I stuck it in an apple last night for about 20 minutes and this is the result.  I'm indecisive on drilling a hole for a lanyard.

Looks great.  Mine didn't have the locking collar either so I did the same simple mod.  I contemplated adding a lanyard hole but I decided against it.  I do like how some have rounded and smoothed the handles.

I find the handle really comfortable so i won't be doing that but I'm still on the fence about the lanyard hole.

Nice. The older Viroblock model puts yours before the year 2000 and according to this page http://fpanda.free.fr/musee/tampons.html this stamp is from the 1950 to 1985-6 timeframe. :)
