Perfect match?? The truth is out there....
on: September 28, 2011, 06:33:02 PM
So, in this ongoing quest for perfect МТ and EDC I came up with some neat combos... This is just my subjective opinion, and I urge everyone to participate... IMHO the best matchmakers are Leatherman and Victorinox, but feel free to make your own.

Rules are simple, name two tools that you think that supplement each other the best...

So what is yours perfect (or near perfect) match??

I'll start with:

First "perfect match"
LM Juice S2 and Vic CT 29 - usable pliers, scissors and set of drivers on LM, supplemented with usable bit driver + bits, awl, bottle and can opener, small screwdriver, pen/T&T... And then some...

Second "perfect match"
LM Skeletool and Vic CT34/41 - Nice locking blade, usable pliers, nice screwdriver with most used bits on LM supplemented by excellent bit driver w/kit, awl, chisel, pen/T&T, bottle and can opener, saw/file on CT... And then some...

Third "perfect match"
LM Charge ALX and Vic Explorer plus - Excellen pliers, all round locking blades/saw/file, two regular bit drivers+one small+bit kit supplemented by great scissors, pen&T&T, small blade, bottle and can opener, magnifying glass... And some more

Fourth "perfect match"
Vic SwissTool or SwissTool Spirit and.....    Well nothing, they are just great as standalone and don't need any supplement!! LOL (sorry LM guys I just had to do that!! And FYI I EDC a Wave... LOL)  :D :D :D :pok: :pok: :pok:

Ok guys, what do you think... Really would like to see those perfect matches, and it should be, what works (or you think would work) for you...  :salute: :salute: :tu: :tu: :tu:

Crunch + Huntsman (with Plus Scales) + PS4 on the key chain

                              or

Crunch + Camper (with Plus Scales) + Micra on the key chain

Vic and Leatherman really do go well together :tu:

A little behind my occupation: I am a dipatcher for a fleet of ~50 transfer dump trucks in Northern CA. 95% of my time is spent at a desk, but there is the occasion of getting back in the truck if we are busy for a day or two while the manager takes over the dispater seat! Also going outside to load trucks on the loader, are possibilities. Aot of my combos are based on what I am doing or what I am wearing for the day. That being said:

In the office, my EDC:
Leatherman Skeletool CX carried with pocket clip, and a Buck Trio in my pocket. I have a Victorinox Tinker in my desk at all times, as well as a Vic Manager on my keys.

In the truck EDC:
Leatherman Charge ALX on belt sheath, SOG Flash II pocket clipped (sometimes LM e55bx), and LM Squirt P4 on my keys. Usually a Maglite 2AA MiniMag or Serac S2 on days like this also.

Weekend at work EDC:
I am a mechanic (somewhat) for our trucks also on Saturdays, mostly PM stuff, nothing big. I usualy have the Wave pocket clipped or sheathed on days like this.

EDC While not at work:
Depends on what I am wearing, usually. Sometime I will sheath an MT if I have jeans on, and have the Buck Trio or Vic Tourist in my pocket. If I am going out in cargo shorts, I usually have the SOG Flash I clipped in the 'hand pocket' and the LM e33bx clipped in one of the cargo pockets, along with Serac S2.

Thats about all I can think of for now, great idea on a thread! I know I am always thinking of which 2-3 knives or tools to carry at a time!

Regular EDC is a KF4 in the pocket and a Rambler on my keys.

If I need a little more I carry a Knifeless Fuse and an Alox Pioneer Harvester.

It seems that Vic and LM do indeed make a great partnership :)

Yes, they do!! But I wanted to check that... Would it be too much to say, match like left and right hand??

Well so far my perfect match is my LM wave and my custom alox explorer.
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

Hmmm, this is a tough one. I swap LM's and SAKs all the time, playing around with different combos. My MP450 gets in the rotation on a pretty regular basis. The past coup;e of days, I've been carrying my Wave with a bit set nearby, my Super Tinker, and a folding utility knife, along with my Micra as keychain backup. This set has been just about perfect! The Wave is a tool I wasn't thrilled with at first, probably b/c I'm a lefty and the OHO blade is wrong for me. I've worked on it some though, and the middle-finger flip method is working fine. The Super Tinker is hands down my favorite SAK, and the folding utility knife is much more sheeple-friendly than my Skyline or Leek.
There's no such thing as "Too pretty to carry".  There's only "Too pretty NOT to carry"...... >:D

For the last few weeks I've paired up a LM Kick and a Vic Ranger. The Kick gives me full pliers and long drivers and the Ranger gives me a saw, file, awl, scissors, corkscrew and of course tweezers and toothpick. All bases are covered with this combo without too much redundancy.

My normal EDC at work is a Vic Super Tinker and a LM Squirt PS4 on my keyring. I keep a Gerber Multi Plier in m squad duty bag.

Off duty is mostly a Vic Spirit and my keyring Squirt PS4.

Once in awhile I live dangerously and only roll with the Squirt PS4 on my keyring, however I have my Vic Spirit, LM Supertool 300, LM Kick, or Gerber BO 600 multiplier near by.

When all else fails, I back up my LM Squirt with a Glock model 27 8)

I currently have a LM Kick paired with a LM Style CS (Kick has full sized pliers and drivers; Style CS has scissors and small driver - these plus a mini Tac-Lite in a LM sheath is a very nice compact package that handles most of my jobs away from work).  In place of the Style CS I have carried a Vic Classic SD, but the "bottle opener" of the Style CS makes it easier to remove from the front pocket of the sheath.

Don't have either one of those but that does sound like a great combo :tu:

Normal EDC during the week is usually a Style CS and Buck 309. These handle everything I need during the work week. On weekends, I'll throw my Tti in my pocket, if the mood strikes. It's nice to have handy, but I keep a crescent wrench, channel locks, and a ratcheting driver set handy for quick repairs too.

I'll play: I carry a Juice KF4 and an Atwood Roidwrench. The Atwood has the bottle opener that the K4 lacks, plus I can use it for all that prying stuff we're not supposed to subject our knife blades to. Also, there have been many occasions where I needed a plier and wrench, or a wrench and screwdriver at the same time. This combo solves that problem easily.  :salute:
