Also, mods I started a new thread for this so that members wouldn't have to read the entire previous thread to get to this update. If I screwed up please adjust as needed. Here goes. I wanted to do a giveaway for mods and admin team members only but it quickly became a logistical problem. There was plenty of support but many hurdles as well. I still want to do this so I have a modified proposal here and would greatly appreciate any member input. To see how this all started please refer to my "Complaint about mods and admin team members" thread. Maybe someone could attach a link to it for me here.

I have purchased two gifts for this so far but I would like to get more. In fact, I'd like to get enough gifts donated of reasonable value that we could almost get something in the hands of our entire staff. I'm just not sure how to do it. I'm envisioning everyone committing to a new or used item donation of around 10 to 50 dollars in value then just make me aware of who you are and what your donation will be. Once all the info is compiled Detron has agreed to do the drawings and each winner could have his or her prize mailed to them from the member holding said item.

Also if we could get help with this from our family members not in the U.S. to organize that end of this we could probably cut down on shipping costs so it's reasonably fair for all involved. I know this is a big ask but they do a lot for us and frequently abstain from giveaways so members have a better chance. I think they deserve their own GAW, I just really need some help with the organizational challenges. We can do this with just the two items I purchased but I'd really like to make this bigger than that. Thanks in advance and any and all help is appreciated.

Loyalty,

Stew...

  • Apparently it is possible to have too many tools;)
Maybe make it like a modified "Secret Santa" giveaway (except it isn't secret and it's not for Christmas) ?  So match up donors and recipients according to where they live (to save postage and reduce logistics/legal issues).

I prefer to give something I know the recipient would appreciate, so would like to discuss with "my" recipient what they need/want.

My preference is for an Australian or NZ recipient, but I'm willing to post elsewhere if needed.

You're exactly right Sir and I think this is what I had in mind. You just said it a lot better and made it clearer. Thanks for your input and I'll get back with you, if you don't mind, about making this more geographically specific.

Thanks gentlemen. Be thinking of a donation and maybe one person who could function as an information clearinghouse. Detron could do the drawing then the winner could contact the clearinghouse person who would have all of the donation/donor info and let them select their prize. Or maybe he could compile a list and post it in the drawing thread then the winners could contact the donors to select their prize in the order they were drawn or just whatever is left. The donor could be notified to then ship to the winner. Thoughts?

Basically a middleman who has all the info and can direct who sends the gift to who won.
Kinda like how Ash and Tom did the Christmas thingy.

How about this. Can we just start a running list right here of donors and gifts. I'll go first and each member can update it as they add their info just like adding your name in a GAW. We need a USA list and a Euro list.

Good morning Sir. If we could get someone from your side of the pond to start a list of donors and donations as well. Those gifts would be sent to winners closest to your area.

I just realised that might sound prejudiced, so I'd just like to add that if any of our other mods and admin want to spend several hundred pounds getting to the UK Meet, i'd happily buy them a pint too

When I say this,I am not speaking for the other mods or the admin team, but this is really not nessesary. We have all at one time or another been gifted all manner of odds and sods, just as much as we may have gifted odds and sods to others.

If the members of the forum cannot be dissuaded, then perhaps donations to charities of choice would be considered... CancerReaserchUK,Help for Heros and the RSPCA springing to mind.

A last thought. Although it's not my faith,Matthew 6:1-4 springs to my mind.

Just my thoughts,no offence ment to anyone

John

I'm in a weird spot, as I've already committed to helping and I maintain that position, and I happen to have been added to the Admin team in the interim.  Don't include me in the list of those receiving gifts, I'm still trying to come up with a tool to donate and I'll do it for a US MOD or admin member.  If they all decline then I'll send something to Grant.

Ok then everybody disregard. I was just trying to show our staff appreciation from the membership and I find it unfortunate that many had "reasons" for quietly avoiding this opportunity to say thanks to the mods and admin team. Bad idea on my part I suppose.

Consider the matter terminated but my deepest respect and appreciation for those who didn't "quietly back away" and were  willing to help me see this through.

Also like to add, thank you to all of the Mods and Admins. This really a great place!

Stew,as always your heart is in the right place. As mods,I feel Grant has honoured us as custodians of our virtual home, and sanctuary. As such we do the mod/admin thing with pleasure.

However,I would remind folks that we've missed our target on donations for a number of months running :pok:

Stew,

If you and/or other members want to do something nice for the Moderators, I am happy to help any way I can, including providing addresses for them since they are all a bunch of stick in the muds.  Lucky for you I never listen to them anyway....  :P

I think the house master just OWNED all of us Lolololol

I'm terrible at finding gifts for people. But I'd be down, as said before.

I will also ship international and cover the cost. It's part of the gift.

I really like the idea. Honestly we need a "midway through the year gifts" for the mods and admins. They go through a lot of Smurf and they deserve something other than their post count raising. And a banner

Thanks Grathr, NK and others. However after reading between the lines a couple of times here I'm going to abandon this idea. It's not going to get the participation I was hoping for from either side of the pond. I'm not sure why and I don't care, I was just trying to do a large scale RAK for the staff on behalf of the membership. I apologize if this attempt created any problems for anyone and I will just go back to my own personal version of the RAK. I'll direct them at any Mod or Admin team member who will allow since I feel their efforts should not go unrecognized.

:pok: We dont need their stinking approval and Stew I rarely ask for approval unless it's of the intimate nature  ;).  Then I get the approval written, notarized, and have a witness during just to be on the safe side .

You pick the mods/admins and we'll send out the loot.  Boss man already said he'll provide addresses  :tu:.

You got a few RAK Soldiers on stand by awaiting orders.
