All I can say is that I don't leave my house without my Vic Swisschamp  8).

So, what color are you getting ...  :pok:

I'll admit that I did ask myself the same thing before taking the plunge.  Do I carry mine all the time?  No.  Is it my favourite ever SAK?  No.  Do I regret getting one?  No, not for a second. :D

As I managed to work out it's the SAK you lusted after when you were a kid.  It's got all the gadgets I thought about and quite a few more, what's not to like?  I suspect Neil's got one with your name on it.  :pok:  :D

Swiss Champ is a great knife!  You might also consider the Champion Plus - Swiss Champ minus pliers for less $$$.  Also, slightly thinner.

Ok I know I'll regret asking this:

Do I need a Vic Champ in my life????

 Aw C'mon mate!! You really expect anyone to say no?  :D :D

I've got a mate who was mocking, then intrigued, then very interested when it comes to the gadgets gizmos and tools I carry. Eventually (it did take some time  ;) ) he wanted me to get him a tool but was unsure what he needed, so I got him a Swisschamp. He LOVES it!! He has now used every single tool for something or other, and says it's absolutely fantastic in every way .... but wouldn't pocket carry it for fear of losing it. It lives on his boat and is put to use everytime he's there in some way or other, and I've since given him a Solingen made SAKalike (Climberesque) for him to carry which has been in his pocket every day since. Let's face it - if it's that good that even HE could see how good it is, it's got to be worth getting.

Don't worry though, if that wasn't enough to tip the balance there'll be someone else along shortly to  :pok: you into taking the plunge  ;)

at least owning it  once, and move on to others....opss its my humble opinion.. ;)

Hi
If you need it … go and get it
But I don't think that you need all the tools … and it's very bulky
So … make a list of the tools in your SAK. Then post it. And folks will help you to choose the right slimm tool
.... And if you can't find the perfect SAK .. Then you should mod one  :D

Shouldn't the poll have one option more ...

Should I get a Champ?

    No,you have too many saks
    Yes
    It should be red
    It should be black
    It should be other colour

    ... duh  ::)

 ;)

About the color,  I have both red and black,  and I must say that I like the black one the most, so I always use the red one for EDC ... (and the black one is for drooling purpose only ...  :-[).

I think Gareth is spot on, it is the SAK you saw as a kid and dreamt of...maybe get if for your kid if you have one. When I first decided to replace my 1 EDC SAK that I'd sent to Ibach for repairs, the first replacement I thought of was the Archetypical red Swisschamp...then I got sidetracked by the CT41. The moral of the story is, get both.

Another bonus about the swisschamp is the cool different scales you can get - horn, stag, wood, mother of pearl. Very expensive, but readily available.

You know, asking this forum membership this type of question, is like asking a drowning person if they would like a glass of water.

Of course you need one...but make it special and get the Horn, stag, or Mother of Pearl version.  :pok: :pok: :pok:

Now you rotten swine have me wondering if I need a Swiss Champ Plus (and of course I do).  I like my Ranger and I like my Explorer - combine the 2 and you have a Swiss Champ Plus.  I carry a SwissTool X so I don't really feel the need for the pliers on my SAK and the SC Plus is heaps cheaper, it also has the plus scales so you get a pen, pin & eyeglasses screwdriver.

You probbaly should have asked a real question.  Which scales should I have on my SwissChamp?

I vote Horn or Stag... my more recent Buffalo Horn ones came with Stainless Steel files, so they really are very wonderful.

Too bad the price has moved up on the XLT version... I like that one as well, but you don't get it in Buffalo Horn.

Yeah I looked at various SAKs a while ago (including the Swiss Champ Plus) and decided a Ranger was a great choice, then I read about how useful the magnifying glass was and that the Explorer was a good SAK to own for the magnifying glass & in-line Philips screwdriver (which it is).  Now I'm thinking that as good as the Ranger is, it doesn't have an in-line Philips screwdriver or a magnifying glass and these would be useful tools to have.  I'm also thinking that as good as the Explorer is, it doesn't have a saw or a file and these would be useful tools to have.
The only conclusion I can make from this is that I need to own a Swiss Champ Plus, luckily they are VERY reasonably priced for such full featured SAKs.

I think that if you washed up on the shore of a desert island and the only tool you had was a Swiss Champ or a Swiss Champ Plus then you would realise just how damned lucky you were to be both alive & well equipped!  On a sunny day you could get a fire started with that magnifying glass and you could use the blades & saw for shelter building - the other tools would be useful for different tasks too.
