Have to have a swiss champ - in some ways I think its te defact swiss army knife - as its probably the one most non sak people know about. It was the first sak I ever bought.
Have to admit I do I have 4 swiss champs 2 in red, one wood handled one and a black one with the clock on.
I dont tend to EDC them but its the one in its little kit that I take on holiday with me, as it such a usuable sak.

Richard makes a good point.  I've often taken the Champ on family holidays (along with another pliers MT) as a good way to cover all the 'what if' scenario's. :)

Too bad the price has moved up on the XLT version...

This one went for a pretty reasonable €56.00 :)

As I managed to work out it's the SAK you lusted after when you were a kid.  It's got all the gadgets I thought about and quite a few more, what's not to like?  I suspect Neil's got one with your name on it.  :pok:  :D

The funny thing is I've never actually lusted after a champ of any discription!I got my first Sak(91mm tinker)in Switzerland, way back in the 80s.My dad told me I could have any one I wanted, and evn as a 12yr old I went for the smaller model! And this was before I ever saw McGyver too!

Oh and I did look at the one Neil had, strangely it didnt have 'John' on the scales, but hey... that might cahnge ;)

Well my Champ arrived, about 10 monutes after finding MTo back up online! Its gonna be a good day!

Its surprisingly comfortable in the hand for such a big SAK,and the weight is rather satisfying...

Surprisingly, it disappears in a front pocket.  The tools are laid out in such a way that the size of the tool doesn't interfere with the function.  Enjoy! :tu:

hope this post not ot..

to share a holiday story last year which one of my SakChamp nearly leaves me for good due to Airtravel. :-\
it sneaks in one of many compartments in my backpack, and had to pass thru the Xray scanner twice! due the officer could not find it after search..Honestly im not aware that it was there  ::) ,

.. to cut it short, since im travelling with kids, and knowing its my fav one, airline staffs & security suggest to get it checked in.. gambling on my emptied laptop bag as the checked luggage...
upon arrival..it looks weired seeing a laptop bag rounding the conyeyer belts last..but deep inside me..its a BIG joy to see it coming as i will hold it again..talk about luck!..

sorry about this rambling.. but it needs to be out..to show how it felt of almost losing it, and sense of joy when reunited!

back to topic...those scale variations are owesome.. :tu: dunno how long will refrain..

I don't own one myself, but I bought one for a mate of mine and that was pretty much my thinking too. I expected it to be quite unwieldy and was quite surprised how nice it was in hand.

So what flavour did you go for John? Red, black, stag, horn .... pics  :pok:

I don't have a SwissChamp, but do have a Champion Plus. I love that knife! I bought a small pouch for it (a cell phone pouch, actually, which fits it perfect). It regularly goes to work and out and about on my belt paired with either my Skeletool or my Octane. I thought at first it would be a bit unwieldy, but I was wrong. I think tomorrow it'll get a shot at some hurricane cleanup duty.....

You should get a SwissChamp and it should be black...

Then, you have all the time in the world to also get a red one, or a blue one, or one with "special" scales...   :drink:

But, yes, you need - at least - one!  :sak:

I really loved the Champion Plus thinking the Champ was just a bit too big and never really needed the small pliers.... but after getting and using the Champ I then got many more of them.  The champ really is a champ; still love the Champion plus though and I have many of those, but they don't come with the fancy scales which are oh so nice.

I think Vic should start using slimmer pliers like the Wengers... the Vic pliers ar just too thick for what I use them for.  I hope they consider thinner Pliers on the next champ... We have many fine multitools now if we really need pliers.

I agree that slimmer pliers would make sense but perhaps they would have issues with them being twisted?

Wasn't the first version of the pliers a little thinner?  I do agree that the jaws would benefit form being a bit slimmer towards the tips.
