Small tool kit

Need some ideas for a small tool kit for my edc bag. I carry a multi and SAK all the time. So what kind of tools should I put in a small bag?

I've been thinking along similar lines,as a way to get some weight off my belt.I've got a 1oz tabacco tin,and am thinking of putting hex bits and a LM bit tool into it,along with other useful stuff like a bit of ducttape etc,but so far I havent gotten anywhere

I keep duct tape on my keyring. But I may move it to the kit to lighten up my pockets. I was thinking of maybe a cresent wrench, micro ratchet with sockets and some other essential stuff.

I carry a small 4" Bahco shifter (crescent wrench) that's proven handy on a few occasions.  Also some ducttape wrapped around an old store card and a bunch of zip ties.

When I started building my EDC bag I went to Utube and searched for"EDC".I found many video's that gave me some really good ideas.Try it,you will like it.

I've been adjusting my non-work EDC pack for a few months now, and working on the small tool kit in it.
This is what I have so far (in a Maxpedition pocket EDC):

• Leatherman ST300
• Spare cutter kit (in a duct tape pouch with a couple of extra feet of tape wrapped around it)
• Bit adapter
• Full LM bit kit
• Quark MiNi AA²
• Set of spare AA's (in a Quark AA-2 Body)
• LM PS4 (missing from pic)
• Mini pry bar
• Kershaw Chill

Been thinking about a "back-up" wrench, for holding things that might turn when using the ST300. perhaps a small adjustable, or maybe even a Crunch (leaning towards the Crunch, just because of the increased versatility, and the inclusion of the internal tools)

Along with my Vic Compact and SuperTool, I swear by my DocAllen Versadriver- that thing is great. The only major change to it is that I've replaced the cheapie drill adapter with a 2" quarter inch socket extension, much more stable feeling. Added a..

So missing from this photo is my Compact- it's in my pocket, it's being shy.

In the front of my Malaga, I carry my SuperTool, a small tape measure, and McFeely PocketWrench.

In the case, I keep my Versadriver, the two bit racks, a 6" extension (wrapped in about 2' of electrians tape to keep it quiet and just becuase some tape never hurts), a cheap bit driver (which one day will have a CountyComm thumbdriver thingy on it), and a 1/4"-to-3/8" socket adapter (I keep a fairly full socket set in the truck).

I also have a 3/32" hex shanked drill bit to be used for a hole start and an awl- it's twin will one day be trimmed down and if done so successfully, will go in here for this role as the current length is a little unweildy.

The little screwdriver carries three double ended, precision bits, while the blue capped vial carries five more, in various sizes. I just got a 1/4"-to-4mm precision bit adapter, so this could go away after some testing.

A couple feet each of black and yellow electricans tape. I usually have a roll of red hanging off the outside of my bag, and a few feet of duct tape in my FAK. Small hemostat, and a small pair of locking pliers. About 12' of wire (can strip it if I need it bare, but it is hard to insulate bare wire). I recently used the 3' of solder I usually carry, along with the length of coat hanger wire I've used in the past with my lighter to melt the solder with (I need to find something better).

The red felt goes in with everything to keep the rattling down.

Not shown is about 10' of stainless steel wire, roughly 3' of velcro plant wrap, and a couple of short bungies. I don't really consider those part of the tool kit, but this is a good place to stash them.

This is a little kit that always lives in the back of my car, I'm not sure if its any help to you Steve   
I think there's a few more bits an pieces in there since last years picture, I've added paracord and flashlight
But its mostly cheap gear that I wouldn't be too sad to loose

I'm liking this thread. My EDC bag has a Swisstool CS plus, a 3 way head ratchet driver, a small can of WD40, a few lights and a bucket load of general odds and sods.

I am working on some specific kits though. One in an Altoids tin (already started HERE), one in a mini EDC pouch, and a larger one for the car in a Snugpak Response Pak (I want that one ready for winter). A little to early for me to have much to show really though 

The only thing I know at this stage is the Car kit will have SOG Powerlock with Wire Strippers, Gerber Fit and Wenger Motorist along with other goodies, and the organiser pouch will have (at least to begin with) SOG Toolclip, Victorinox Champion and 4" Irwin Vise Grips. I'm liking the idea of a 4" adjustable spanner though

Thanks for the link. Took me awhile to find it. Although useful I am still in need. What exactly I'm trying to do is get as many small tools in a small organizer. Not multis or saks, and lights but tools. Like ratchets, crescent wrench, stubby screwdrivers etc.

A six or eight Crescent wrench are nice and small. I have an eight inch that can handle up to one inch nuts.
Ratcheting bit driver...this thing is my workhorse around the house. I have Phillips, slotted, torx, and hex socket bits in my tool bag.
Off-set bit driver. Takes special bits with detents to keep them anchored in, bit works great when you don't have a bunch of room.
Channellocks, cuz I love em.
Tape measure.
Diagonal wire cutters.

I thought I'd post a visual aid for my in-home tool bag. I'm not very crafty, but I can fix things and hang pictures fairly well. The ratcheting driver, Crescent, and (amazingly) the Micra see the most use.

My bike tool kit hangs out in there too. It has a stubby phillips, a couple tire levers, patch kit, 5mm allen, and a 4" crescent that all fits nicely into my Camelbak.

Yea, I know, it was just a little

But as far as a "kit philosophy", I always try to form my builds based on one core item, and then expanding from there with tools not already present. So when I start with a full size multi I have a good deal of preliminary items covered.

The point being that no matter how specific I want a particular kit, I almost always want a pair of pliers and a knife...

Here are some of the small gripping tools I sometimes carry.   I am particularly fond of the German-made 5 inch Knipex Cobra pliers (part number 87 01 125) with red handles.  They are adjustable and can open wider than the pliers on most multitools or Vise-Grips.

Very nice line up, many of those I would suggest.

I would suggest a 6" adjustable wrench, wide jaw. The wide jaw one I have by Crescent goes up to 15/16"

Perhaps a Gator Grip instead of several sockets? I haven't used one but I've heard they're actually pretty decent.

Thanks.  The split rings can be used to fasten a lanyard.   They make it easier to grab and pull the Vise-Grips from a tight holster when my hands are cold.

Great ideas folks. I like the knipex cobra but they sure are pricy. I was thinking of using a small craftsman ratchet or find a micro ratchet with some commonly used sockets. Or as a member mentioned a gator grip socket.
