Victorinox Farmer at Walmart.com?
on: December 12, 2007, 07:23:48 PM
Hey Everybody!

I was perusing the Walmart site and I came across this:

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=7977252

It looks like Walmart is selling Victorinox Farmers for $16.88 each, but there's a catch.  The website doesn't describe it as a Victorinox knife, but calls it a "9-Function Swiss Army Knife" and uses a photo of a Victorinox Farmer. ???

Please let me know if you have ordered one and if it is the real deal.  That's a great price for a Farmer if it's true.

Merry Christmas

-Papacat.

Hmm..  That's interesting.  I would suspect it is a Victorinox.  The people at Walmart are probably not too articulate in the distinctions.  If it's not and it is a knock off then there would be a clear case for fraud and misrepresentation.  The Swiss cross logo is clearly pictured and I am not sure how the copyright laws are and how Victorinox protects intellectual property but they clearly own the rights to that logo.

There is no doubt in my mind that the Farmer at walmart is the real deal.  Wal-Mart unlike many other retailers researches such things to ensure that the customer gets exactly what they order.  If somthing is wrong they know immediately.

The only question is, why buy silver alox from Walmart if the red alox is on sale at Amazon for $2 less with free shipping on orders over $25?

That is why they need a model with a pocket clip.

I never liked pocket clips, those extra moments finding the lip of the pocket to clip it too, when I coulda been chasing!!

They've got a lanyard ring, and while it's no pocket clip, it's a good compromise :)

Good point, Alexei.  My plan though was to have the knife shipped to a store near my work and still not have to worry about shipping charges.  That, and I think the silver one looks better.

I've had my Super Tinker for 13 years and the scales still look pretty good.  It's been through some rough stuff as well.  My guess is the Walmart ad is the real thing.  You might want to check out Amazon though as they have some real good deals.  The have a listing for the Silver Alox version for $16.74.  They have the standard red for $14.52.

What amazes me is the prices on these things now.  I paid several dollars less on Amazon for the Champion Plus than I paid for my Super Tinker 13 years ago.  The quality certainly hasn't changed.  Online sites seem to have heavy discounts I probablw wouldn't find in a store.

I find it amusing. If I were Victorinox's trademark attorney, I would have required that Wal*Mart display the Victorinox trademark.

Well, I did it.

I ordered the knife and received it from my friendly neighborhood Wal Mart.  I was surprised at how quickly they were able to deliver it to the store, but I was not surprised at the unenthusiastic service I received there.  As soon as I got into my car, I examined the knife closely and discovered...

that it is a Victorinox Farmer.   :climber:

I just don't get why Wal Mart didn't label at as a Victorinox Farmer.

Well, no complaints here.  I love the knife; another in my growing collection.
