I've been keeping track of Hurricane Irene on the BBC news. Are there any of us MTo'ers being affected?

To be fair, the plastic furniture is placed in the pool so it won't blow away; while I was in Jamaica when Emily was predicted to strike us hard, the resort did something similar.

That's what we're doing here in North Jersey, too. The rain's picked up a bit, and the Shore is starting to take a beating. Hope everyone down South is ok so far.

Supposed to still be at tropical storm strength or maybe a little higher when it hits Vermont.  :-[ It isn't the rain that I'm worried about, we've had 6-7 inches in a single storm a couple times the past few years, but the wind... yeah. That's what I'm not sure we can be ready for up here.

And my brother and part of his volunteer EMS agency rolled out yesterday morning to a staging area just outside of NYC.

Looks like I'm going to feel the effects, although it appears that we won't be in the middle of it this time.

Good luck to the guys that are, and make sure you have the ultimate survival item with you- cash.  After the storm is gone there may be extended power outages.  Some small stores are likely to be open, but they won't be able to accept any payment methods other than cash.

Well, I heard one tree go.  :(

Power's been off and on a few times, currently on.  Another couple hours until the worst is past.  Chainsaw tomorrow.

Good to hear everything is ok- so far at least!

Irene's been downgraded to a Tropical Storm, or at least predicted to be downgraded by the time it gets here.  According to the sattelite maps it appears to be breaking up.

Getting really windy here, the Jerusalem artichokes along with its support rod are now leaning 45°, hopefully they'll recover.
