We went for a walk around the town of Bakewell last Monday and I got a couple of pics worth sharing:

The weir in Bakewell town:

The outskirts of Bakewell as we followed a Public footpath to see where it took us:

Drink break and quick check of the map:

I think someone's sawed the legs of this horse

I like those stone fences Dave. Most of the old stone fences around here are gone or very little is left of them.

I like those stone fences Dave. Most of the old stone fences around here are gone or very little is left of them.

They are a feature of the Peak District David - there must be thousands of miles of them in the area and some of them are verging on being ancient. As the Peak District is now a National Park, I think there are rules that the farmers have to follow and they have to be maintained, which is good for us tourists.

Some of them are built on hillsides too, and I always spare a thought for the poor labourers who must have had to transport the stone by hand and build them hundreds of years ago. It's hard enough walk to simply walk through some of these areas, let alone bring a bunch of rocks and build a wall!

North Wales is a bit like this too :)

Plenty in Scotland as well where the term is "drystane dyke".  The common feature is that they're not build with any kind of mortar, just stones piled neatly on top of each other hence 'dry stone'.

Thanks :) I keep dropping in every so often to try and catch up on my reading, don't get an awful lot of time to do it so i'm a bit behind (somewhere in the region of 100 pages of unread topics...but hey ho!)

It is better that the trees are not in focus. If forces the viewer to focus on the foreground. Focused trees would only act as a distraction. Love the photo Roadie.
