Need some phone advice
on: September 01, 2011, 07:07:20 PM
i broke the screen on my desire... again  :-\

feel out my pocket in a lift shaft  >:D

its insured but i kind of invalidated that by fixing it myself last time as i couldnt be bothered to go through the procedure

so i now have 9 months left on a 24 months contract - 6 months till i can upgrade.

what should i do?

buy a cheap retro phone?

buy another smart phone then sell my upgrade when i get it to get my money back?

just wanted some opinions

:ahhh

If the phone is broken now how are they going to know you fixed once before?

I would just submit a claim and play dumb. The worst they can do is deny the claim.

True but the new iOS will be here in the fall, and hopefully the 5 will drive down the price of the 4.  I have a BB Curve for work but don't care for it much, maybe I don't give it enough love since I already have the iPhone

Perhaps you need something a bit tougher than a sissy smartphone  :tu:

If I were you I'd slum it with a cheap phone until upgrade time comes around

Iphone 5 is coming soon from what I hear.

I really like my Samsung galaxy S2, though probably not worth buying for just 6 months.

I've got a £25 Nokia.Got a camera, can take a MicroSD card,I can upload Ace of Spades to play on the bus if chavs start to play thier *&^% excuse for music, its so uncool,it'll never be stolen, and on the basis of its predessors it'll last forever.

Plus it gets signal everwhere!
There is no beginning,or ending, and for this we are thankful, cos now is hard enough to understand!

Guess you have to be careful next time, no matter what phone you get. The quest to find a phone that "survives" extreme conditions is never ending, and there is no such phone made, and won't be made (well, if its made, it will no longer qualify as an "handheld device", so no one is going to make it anyways).

So get a phone that your budget permits (all phone suck, some suck more), put it on a leash, use a clever mechanism to tie the other end of the leash to your belt loop, or belt, or wherever you can feel secure, and get going. :-)

Excellent point  :tu:

Our work phones are ridiculously basic and plain. A colleague lost her phone in a Tesco's carpark. Within half an hour she had it back  :D Someone found it and left it at a local Police station.

If it had been an iPhone or similiar she probably would have had no chance. I think the person who found it felt sorry for her thinking this phone belonged to a poor pensioner  :D

For battery life, signal and 'solidness' my best phone was my Nokia 6310i :tu:

That was the iPhone of its day  :D

i agree, i was a tradesman for over 20 years and used older beat up phones, when it came to phones and watches i used old beat up stuff, my old G-shock lasted me for years but was so scratched in the end i could not make out the time, my phones was always nokias as idiot proof to use  :D and you can drop them over and over again one of mine fell out of my back pocket while fitted carpet on some stairs in a large office block in london it went right down the middle from the 5th floor to the 1st and yep still worked  :D

Funny thing is I still have my Nokia 3310,which I reckon was the best mobile I've had.I used it for 4yrs,got a new battery for it,gave it to my folks who took it biking all over southern Africa before giving it back to me.I'm very tempted to get another new battery and put it back into use!
