That, I believe, is a hoof pick.  Normally found on a Trailrider as seen here in David's post.

Thanks Gareth, always good to be able to ask questions of the collective knowledge base of MTo.

This particular hoof pick has been ground down to be much "pickier", so who knows what it has been used for.  Looks a bit sharp to be pushing into the soft part of a horses hoof (but I know extremely little about horses, even less than what I know about Mts and that's not a lot).

Anyway, the whole tool looks quite purty in orange and black  :D

Thanks Bob.  I quite like brightly coloured MTs, but unfortunately it seems not many of the buying public shares my tastes, so manufacturers didn't (and still don't) make many of them.

I haven't seen too many of any of the coloured MP600s for sale at all (except for a red one on ebay that I haven't been able to persuade myself to pay $125 for  :(  )  I'll keep looking .....

I wonder if the main reason they don't make many colored tools is because of how poorly paint seems to stick to stainless steel? Mine are all shelf queens, but the painted MP600's as well as the painted Leatherman tools that have come out in recent years (Skeletools, Waves, Fuse, etc) all look pretty terrible after only a little bit of use. :-\ And it's not like the paint simply gets scratches in it either, it seems to come off in big flakes. So sad. :(

Did all the Coloured MP600s come with the same Tool loadout (except for teh ratehrt exotic one with the Hoofpick) or have there been variants like with teh SS/BO MP600s over the production time?

Bob (at least) will be able to answer this better, but my understanding is that the colours were offered as part of a "build your own" service.  In other words you could choose whatever tools you wanted, within the limits of the MP600 frame of course.

That is spot on for the most part Gareth. :salute: The orange, green, blue, and white models are not seen very often, because as far as I know they were only available through the Build Your Own program. The tool loadouts in these colors vary depending on the preferences of the person who originally ordered them.

The red and the yellow variants are more common because they were part of a "standard" combo kit from Gerber that included a cheap flashlight. I'm sure there were "custom" red and yellow tools ordered as well, but most of the ones seen today were from the combo kits and these all have the same tool load out.

Hope that helps! :)

Has any one heard of or seen anything about a neon lime green MP600 ?

I've just bought this one, and am thinking it is probably a custom paint/coating, but thought I'd ask if anyone knew anything at all about it anyway ( I do like my brightly coloured plier-based MTs  ;)  ).

PS I'm still looking for yellow, blue, green and white MP600s if anyone has some they don't want

this might be a badly photographed yellow one.
If it is lime green it is the first I have seen and I want it for my Kawasakis Tool-Kit.  :gimme:
Nice catch.

Could be yellow I guess, though the pics definitely make it look lime green.  Let us know when you get it mate.

I won't see it myself for a month or more, but I'll get Matt to give an early report when it arrives at his place.  Given the title explicitly says "Lime Green Neon" I'm not expecting it to be yellow.  We should know in a few days unless the seller is slow shipping.

Are you referring to the different variations of the MP600? or that they still make it after all those years?

I can't answer that except to say it is one exceptional multitool.  :salute:

I've never had a problem deploying the tools on one, and the MP400/600 series tools are carried by me more than all my other tools combined.  I'd love to get my hands on one or two or three of these colored ones.....  :)

I've only ever seen 4 coloured MP600s for sale on eBay, and only 3 of those were worth buying (so I did   :D ).  If you ever see any others please let me know.

Update: I've only ever seen 6 coloured MP600s for sale on eBay, and only 5 of those were worth buying (so I did   :D ).  Scored TWO Green ones today !

As usual, the lesser quality one was ending first, so playing safe I bid on both, and of course I won both.  The first one isn't in too bad condition, with some of the green finish flaked off in a couple of places, but the second one is in good shape and went for a much lower price than the first one ($29.00 vs $40.30).  I also grabbed a camo one for $29.00 from the same seller  :)

So it's worthwhile persisting in the search, you never know when you might get lucky.  Only (!  ::) ) the Yellow, Blue, White and Tan versions to find now .....

Sorry, I don't have the technology (or connection speed) for pics, but here are links to the three auctions with pictures (and the ebay item numbers in case the links don't work for anyone).  The "less good" green one is first:

221293609365  http://www.ebay.com/itm/221293609365?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

I won't actually get my hands on these for a month or two  :(  (but Matt should see them in a few days)
