Ok guys.

This is it.

I will be giving away one modded MT to one lucky person who can come up with the best thematic mod idea. Likely this will be made from a LM Charge TTi , so not only are you going to be one awesome custom tool, it will come from the finest pedigree. (pending design, this maybe substituted by a Wave)

Here are the rules:
1. This tool cannot be used or designed to be an offensive or defense weapon of any kind.
2. Ideas must be unique and presented in a clear way (collected and modified ideas are welcome)
3. Custom parts will be entertained but within reason (ie, no custom water jetted scales like the Mjölnirman)
4. The zanier the better.
5. Use and modifying the existing tools you bonus points, that includes SAK parts.

Ideas such as, "the conductor-a model train builders tool" or "the flight stick-an aircraft mechanic tool" or "the redhead-a movie grip MT" are examples of good themes.

Remember, it's gotta be cohesive and an EDC tool just won't cut it. It goes against what MTs are about but the glory of having a custom MT outweigh the needs of the many.

Start your brain storming.

I'll be picking a winner Friday Oct 7, 2011 at high noon.

Ok I just read that and got very excited, but then realized I have no idea what I have to do or what is going on. Please excuse me as these new meds they gave me have me feeling really loopy. I will come back in the morning all rested up and give it a second read.

The WallStreet - A banker's tool:
1) fold out comb - could cut it from the saw?
2) letter opener - reshape plain edge blade ; or leave it alone
3) telescoping pointer or laser pointer - replaces large multi bit screw driver on inside of tool
4) cigar cutter - on the inside of the tool; replaces scissors or modifies scissors... possibly made from modified pliers head?
5) pen - folds out from inside the multitool.

ps: no matter what, don't let my idea win! I think its a dumb idea but posted it in spirit of fun and to get the ideas flowing.

I forgot to mention in the rules.

if you are looking really specific drivers types, fastner tighter wrenches or whatever, you must send me the part that you are wanting to tighten/loosen so I can make measurements etc.

Happy hacking everyone, remember.....zany.

That sounds awesome! I've always thought a leather working would be a perfect meld to a MT. The eyelet crimpers would be a challenge.

Great 2nd (Cleanser got it first) idea!

Thanks mate  :D When I said I'll start I meant I'll throw in my first idea  ;) Not treading on Cleansers toes

Second one ... the Cyclist: Does exactly what it says on the tin

Outboard spanners, drivers and keys (or bit driver)
Remove pliers head and all internal components - using plier action fashion a mini bellows or cylinder pump with delivery through where plier heads would normally be. Possibly with fold out "handles" or external tool covers to aid pumping action - think Leatherman mini but inside out

I don't cycle personally - God invented cars for a reason as far as I'm concerned  ;) but you asked for zany  :pok:

BTW - thanks for this, it'll be fun whatever happens  :D :D :salute:

I was at Target Knives yesterday (my lock knife dealer) and saw the SAK Cyclist, short of the pump, it has all of what you are describing! haha

The Nanny State

No knives, anything more pointed than a ball point pen can't lock.
Nothing should look remotely scary, may need a florescent fluffy pink pouch :D
Preferably completely useless as people who fix stuff rather than binning and buying new are strange and not to be trusted and are probably terrorists  :surrender:

I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

What about an Emergency / Rescue Tool with:

Belt Cutter
Glass breaker
Oxygen Wrench
Safety Shears/Scissors
Led Light
Prybar or a blade combo similar to this ones:

The Survivorman (Yes, I know, the name's been done  :P):

SAK Magnifying glass in place of larger driver (firestarting)
Ferrocerium rod insert for large bit driver (will be short but can be held with pliers when striking)
Blade exchanger for file so it can be removed and used to sharpen blade/strike ferro rod
Polished handles and/or serrated blade for signalling
Replace scissors with thin plastic holder for fishing hooks (hooks either taped to plastic or fitting into snaps)
Milled inset in handle scale for button compass attached with adhesive

Well you said use SAK parts  ;)

I did have a couple more silly ideas which I'll chuck in (then I'll shut up for a bit - at least 20 mins anyway  :D to let someone else have a go)

The Barber: A ... errm ... barbers tool  :-[

Red and white striped handles
Mini fold out Badger brush
OHO Open razor (to take disposable blades for hygiene)
Manicuring tools
Mini shears for trimming rougue hairs from facial orifices

The Neurologist: A brain surgeons toolbox

OHO Open razor as above
Modified bit adapter to take a manual cranial trepanning tool (used with arms in an L shape)
OHO scalpel blade holder
Various pokey/scarpey widgets
A hybrid of a gas powered soldering torch built from one of those one million degree  ::) torch lighters from DX for cauterising any little leaky pipes
Stitching awl and thread reel from the most excellent Cordwainer above  :pok:  :D

Ok ... I'll shut up now  :-[

 :D :D :D OHO Cotton buds?

 I said I'll be quiet .... I'll get my coat  :kickout:

Pssst: I still want a cordwainer  ;)

This sounds like a mod for a Surge...hmm....
1.Mag glass would be easy
2. ferro rod even easier, the removable file could be used for this too
3. blade exchange already there
4. polishing stainless is easy
5. lots of room for a box for fishing stuffs (even a fold out rod? haha)
6. those button compasses suck, but ok :)

Too many actual good ideas here. You want zany?

The Party Animal
*Bottle opener
*Corkscrew
*Small postal scale
*Pipe tamper and cleaner
*Pliers modded into hemostats
*Cigarette roller
*Small pill fob
*Pharmaceutical spatula
*iPod shuffle loaded up with Pink Floyd and The Grateful Dead

Just kidding. Don't make that. You'll get somebody arrested.

All of these tools sound messy :) especially the badger brush. Now, if the badger brush was removable..now you're talking. I've never been a fan of the safety razor, they scare the crap out of me. Two of my friends swear by them esp the cost, they each have 500 packs (which is a life time and a half). I do like the safety razor holders, they are always so nicely machined and made of the best stainless.

I wonder if you can adapt say a Mach3 or 4 handle into it...I would worry about the water issue when you need to clean it...then again, having it removable would make for easy maintenance.

Good brainstorming! keep it coming!

you know...that's so funny. A friend of mine who..umm...like to smoke..asked me to build him a simliar tool. Less white powder substance, but more for the green. We were going to call it

The Haze

1. scissors
2. pill fob storage
3. pokey thing (awl)
4. pill fob lighter
5. removable pipe cleaner/tooth pick/tweezers
6. knife
heres the best part
7. one of the handles would be a pipe.

we were thinking of making it out of a Surge because it has the most real estate for the items....

Geez, I almost forgot the whistle!

For a Charge, maybe milled into a handle scale. For a Wave/Surge maybe replacing the small bit driver or scissors.

  • When in doubt, use a bigger hammer.
How about the "Super-Crazy-Guitar-Man" (see: flash game)
Complete with:
- Guitar pick holder. for storing those pesky little picks.
- Pliers. for cutting guitar strings to length and tuning guitars with broken ummm, (the things that stretch the string). and they can be used to retrieve things that fall into guitars.
- And a pokey, scraper thing to get gunk out of between the frets and stuff.
- Oh, And a tuning fork :D the little ones that make a La note when you strike them on stuff.

Chuck Norris' preferred iron supplement is rebar.

I can see the TTi's 'tool' side of the handle accepting a whistle mod easy! if not, a new scale with a whistle/tweezer/light/compass/removeable pokey thing would be rad! it would make for a bit of a bigger tool, but hell, it could be done!
