The 1st one here to quit for 3 months gets a gift from me. And if you start again I get it back.
Deal? :pok:

I just got done smoking a cigarette and I found myself not even wanting to but I was just because of habit. I am taking today as my first day to quit. I am here to support anyone else who needs it as well as will most likely need some support myself.   :salute:

awesome! Thanks Threeme! I'm doing okay so far today, trying to feel good about the cigs i don't light, I've had about half what I normally would.  A mystery prize woot!  It is good incentive thanks again really.  So there's three of us now?  I don't want this to be as much of a competition as a support group... a tactical support group, I think we can do this together.

Good luck guys  :tu:

I'm not stopping as I'm not ready, but I'm right behind anyone who is  :salute:

If you want to stop - you WILL stop
Give yourselves a reward to aim for - a new MT for a smokeless month is great
Give yourself an alternative - If you get a craving have a glass of grapefruit juice
Take deep breaths - much of the "lift" you get from smoking is having a few good gulps of oxygen
Have something to keep your hands occupied ... that won't get you arrested  ;) Pen twirling, pace beads, Whatever keeps your fingers from reaching for something else

lol I knew what you meant Steve and I figure e-smoke is only valid if it's nicotine free IMHO.  I don't want to be stuck chewing poopy gum :twak:  thanks for the tips 50, I've turned to flipping out OHO's to keep my hands busy.

 That was great! I've been trying to cut back and have made some progress. The absolute absence of nicotine? Not ready for that yet. Besides, that would mean that my cigars and pipe collection would go to waste, and we can't have that. :P Best of luck to you guys going all in!

Just found this thread,  and as a former, 3 pack a day, Marlboro Red 100 smoker  I must say... just don't give up. Don't underestimate the pure power of nicotine and habit. Many light and or non smokers simply just don't understand. Phillip Morris was my crutch and friend when there was no others. With a smoke , one may be under the illusion of never being alone. Quitting was VERY hard on me and took over a dozen attempts. Which was good, I was learning what to expect with each attempt. I run 6-8 miles daily, and I used to smoke 3-5 cigs on my runs. Sounds crazy,  I know , but somewhat normal behavior in my environment at the time  :salute:.  My blood work and vitals are well below normal for my age group. But, X-rays of my lungs tell a tale and what may await me in my declining years. Don't be afraid of initial failures and just don't give up.
Yeah, you right...

I think no nicotine related substances is one of the qualifications.

Good luck Beerplumber!  Kudos to you for quitting.  I am a severe asthmatic so I have never smoked but I understand addiction.  It takes balls to quit.  It's easy to run to the safety of a vice, we all have them and just don't realize it.  It's not so easy to tell yourself that you don't need it, it's even harder when yourself fights back!  I managed to quit caffeine 3 years ago(don't laugh, it's really hard), and the headaches I got were so bad I had to call in to work a few times.  They lasted two months.  I am ashamed to say I am back on caffeine, though not as bad as before.  I can only imagine the hell that nicotine withdrawals put you through.  Again, kudos my friend.  My mother quit for my 12th birthday and it meant the world to me, I thank her every time I can even 15 years later.

I'd also be interested as to how well the e-cig works out. As to the expense of smoking, I make my own smokes, and can put together a pack in about 10 minutes for around $1.05 a pack  :P. My mother is constantly in PA, and she gets me a pound bag of tobacco for a hell of a lot cheaper than I can get it here. Talk about enabling.....
