THO Wave +
on: January 14, 2024, 01:05:07 PM
Came across something interesting whilst browsing our local Leatherman site. The Wave has always had the connotation that strictly speaking it is not street legal in Germany since it has OHO and lockable blades, although enforcement is rare - but still many people may have shunned the tool as a result (being the good law-abiding citizens most are rumoured to be). Apparently it's LM's best sold tool, so they've decided to make it more accessible over here by offering a version that hasn't got the cutouts in the straight and serrated blades. I'm assuming there would be nail grooves on the reverse side to assist in opening, but can find no confirmation of that. No sign of a corresponding Surge version though.

They're for the Danish market. Some kind of restrictions they have regarding the opening, must be two handed. Looks like the law may have been changed but these tools still exist.

Ah yes, makes sense. Extended the reach to Germany then...

We can buy these in the UK since the website changes early last year, but there’s no advantage here.

One hand opening is not relevant to the legality, just needs to be shorter than three inches and non-locking.

I wonder if a two hand opening Surge would still be illegal in Denmark. Is blade length a factor there?

Looking nice, but that part you circled looked like there is blade edge too. I could imagine how that blade would cut piece of hand away when pinching, that makes avoiding to that happen.

Looks like it doesn't it Antti? In practice I think this is due to perspective rather than intended as a blade edge. The only way to find out would be to order one
