Exactly how would I tell the difference between the "old locks" and  the "new" ones?

If you look at the lever lock area on Poncho's pic above you will see that there is no notch on the handle below the lever, His is the old style. If you look at my pic above you will see a small notch or cut out in the handle . This the new style.

I think I see...to make room for the larger button, which displays out. And a thicker pivot pin as well, by the looks of it.

Thanks Steve

Thanks Steve :hatsoff: and yep the notch for the lock tabs gives the older and newer styles away :tu:

The MTO Encyclopedia is also a wealth of knowledge that we have if you want to give it a look see :D The link for the Blast page is here

Gracias, Pancho. Caught your page on a Google search after I had submitted the question. There is  much info here, it is sometimes difficult to know that we do have an answer to something

Love the Blast! It's like a Wave in a different package. I'll never be without one in my collection to use.

The Blast was the first MT I bought to replace my PST :tu: The wave/Blast comparison is what sold me  The only tool difference between the 2 of them is the SE blade I think  Otherwise it is a box style Wave :salute:

No pics just yet, but I just completed a transaction with Aloha 007, and am now the proud owner of a later model Blast. Great transaction and great tool!

The Blast is like a PST ii with an added saw. I have been handling it off and on for the last few hours. I was going to buy one a few years ago because I like the toolset and the old-school layout. The reason I didn't was because of the Zytel plastic inserts...I had done harm to the Cellidor of more than one SAK and t want anything where that could happen again.

Glad I handled a friend's Fuse and decided to give the Blast a go round.

I think you will :like: the Blast  Several years back when comparing it to the Wave, I chose it (of course I still ended up with a Wave later  ) but the toolset on it is great and I really wished that they had of kept that set for an option on the Rebar when they discontinued it :-\ I have never had a problem with any of the Zytel on any of mine in that line and I did use the Blast hard for a good while and it never let me down :salute: :like:

Thank you for the background, Poncho.

I have already conducted an admittedly unscientific r ed. I opened both the PST ii and th Blast  grabbed the handles of each in one hand. I found the Blast seems to have flexed less when squeezing it in my strong hand than my PSTii flexed in my weak hand at the same. Granted, the pst handles sit open at a lower angle than the blast, but the movement  of the handles was noted.
