Got a Powerlock on the cheap!

Got a text from my flatmate early last week, with a link to a website doing oneday special offers.I know hes a keen bargin hunter and he knows I suffer MuTAS.
Basically it was a Powerlock for £34 plus P+P!Well in the best traditions of MTo,is sat there, weighed up the pros(very few),the cons(lots!) and promptly bought it!At £43 delivered, you just couldnt say no,could you?
Anyways it arrived this morning
I was both pleased and surprised to see that it had single piece locks rather than piano locks(of which I'm not a big fan.)I was surprised just how big it is,it absolutedly dwarfs my Wave! For all that it does feel very useable.
Again, much to my surprise the handle covers havnt fallen off(as the did almost imediately with the Powerassist I used to have).Either I've become more competant in handling MTs,or this guy is just a well built tool, but the handles havnt been an incumbrance.
While I've not taken pix of it,the sheath is a nice little piece of leather work, and much to my surprise, held the quarter inch socket!Joy!!!
I'm trying to decide whehter to replace the PE blade with a V cutter,or just simply put a spacer in so as to render it UK legal for EDC.
All in all I'm so far very impressed!I've bauled at the price of these tools, but at half of RRP,it is a major bargin. But on examination,it does strike me as a good alternative to a Wave!
There is no beginning,or ending, and for this we are thankful, cos now is hard enough to understand!

Kirk, you'll be pleased to know that SOG has phased out the use of piano locks and have returned to the lever unlock mechanism than your PL2.0 has.

I have 2 PowerLocks: The "2.0" and a "Contractors Grade" (with "V" cutter and exposed gears). The Contractors model came with a brown leather sheath; I don't see any slot/holder to carry the 1/4" socket. Did SOG change the holster, or is the socket placed inside the sheath, next to the tool?
FYI: As I understand it, the PowerAssist model will still have the piano locks.

Don't mistake lack of talent for genius.

I got the same deal!
It was with IBOOD. my first SOG too. Not sure if I am going to keep it tho', still not sure what I think of it. Does yours have play in the handles when squeezing the pliers together? Is this a normal SOG tendancy?
It seemed like a good idea at the time.

Not really given the pliers a hard workout yet,but my PPPs do as you've described.Thing I find with SOGs,is that thier more charming or charismatic than LMs,if not always as solid!Having said that,I'm edcing my knifelessPPP this week at work, and not suffering much for it,and I theink the Powerlock is a far more solid tool!

agreed, its a solid tool, and bigger than i thought. i have many mt's, mostly LM, several Vics, one Gerber, other odds and sods. I have always been tempted by SOG cos of their "customability" and self replacable parts, but quality wise i'm still unconvinced.
It seemed like a good idea at the time.

Update.....I tried the wire cutting abilities of the SOG v LM Charge TTI v LM Skellie v Vic Swisstool, the SOG won hands down! Man that tool can squeeze/cut! I am, to say the least, impressed :salute:As the saying goes "it does exactly what it says on the tin"

Oh yeah, forgot to mention the "fiddle factor" is 100%! almost feels hydraulic in use. Tried the one handed opening method.....my knuckles are sore

Wehey!! Finaly got my internet fixed after nearly 2 weeks! Blimey....its like being blind! Anyways, gave my SOG powerlock a hard go on the pliers this week, removing the steel band around a "for rent" sign estate agents use to attach the signs to walls. It was fairly thick, taught and rusty, but the SOG cut through it like a hot knife through butter, well impressed
I nearly knackered one of my LMs doing the same thing last year
This is my first SOG, as I previously said I wasnt to sure of its qualities and abilities at first, but the more I use it, the more impressed I become. I am starting to look at other SOGs now. Damn this forum, you lot are a bad influence, especialy on my bank account
It seemed like a good idea at the time.
