Wingman coming to Home Depot
on: September 23, 2011, 12:11:23 AM
The Home Depot website shows them as a store exclusive for 24.88 US dollars.  The stores I checked with show it as inactive on the SKU  numbers from the website. I have an email in to them to see when they will be shipped to the retail stores, as soon as I find out any information I will pass it along.   :gimme:

My Wingman has been on my belt for two days.  I really am surprised about the great features in this and the Sidekick.  I think they are going to help spawn a new bunch of MT folks.

Cheers - Joe

$25? Jeeeez. I was going to get a Sidekick (budget approved) but with that price, I just lessen the beer fund for a few weeks and have both. Good idea, glad I thought of it.

My guess is they are getting ready for the coming holidays.  A few years ago my local HD had a leatherman core knife and bit kit special package for Christmas.  I hope they get a ton of them in the store because for that price I will be getting SEVERAL of them.  I usually get my co-workers either a leatherman or knife of some sort for Christmas and this looks like a good candidate for this year.

Yep I can't wait to get these for Christmas presents.  I'm not flush with cash so never picked up Waves for my brothers and father-in-law.  Plus none of them carry a multi-tool currently, would hate to lay out a bunch of cash and they not even use them.  But at the $25.00 price point everyone is getting them for Christmas!

I received a reply a short time ago from Home Depot saying the wingman should be in my store between Oct 15 and Nov 1.  Not sure if this applies to all stores though.

I hope they are packed in a dozen boxed display set.  I will just pick up the whole display and head to the checkout counter.

So I was in Home Depot today buying some paint and tile, and I went over to the MultiTool section and started poking around. Well, you know how HD is when they are not busy, you just have to start touching something, and 3 or 4 people start climbing over each others shoulders asking if you need help finding something.

I found out a few things:
  • Like Amazon, HD is not suppose to sell the Wingman until 10/15
  • Every HD is suppose to have at least one Kick in stock at all times
  • Most stock at least the Wave too, just because it is so popular
  • Because the Kick is retiring, the Wingman will take it's place as the "at least one" tool

Three things that I don't know:
  • Will the price always be $24.97, or is that just an introductory price?
  • Will the Kicks go on clearance on 10/15?
  • What's in the HD warehouses for a LM Christmas special?

The home depot I went to had the same, wave and kick. You'd think a hardware store would carry things like ST300 and surges. Anyway patiently waiting. I'm in them fairly often so I'll postbox if I hear any thing

The customer service people didn't have either in the computer's system.  Also, when I called Sears, they asked for the item number; I said I didn't have one, and they said they had no way of looking up the item.  Umm, not everyone has the Internet, nor do they have every tool's item number memorized.  WTF is their job if you have to know everything about the tool when you call to ask about ETA? :/

It comes from the nature of the store itself. First and foremost HD is a "discount" supply store, and they carry very little of what would be traditionally considered "professional grade" tools and supplies. (except under their own brand names, and those are somewhat less than "professional" when compared to construction industry standards)

EDIT: I love their paint though, can't find anything better without going to a paint store proper, and paying twice the price.

I agree. The only MT's I have every seen there are the Wave and Kick. It seems as they would have a better MT selection.

Three things that I don't know:
  • What's in the HD warehouses for a LM Christmas special?

Something I remembered: Around the time that LM had finalized the purchase of LED Lenser, and retired the Monarch line, Juli had mentioned that they were packaging all the rest of the Monarch's with various MT's for Christmas specials. So these will probably show up at HD and Costco.
