Did a quick Mod. To my PANTS!!!! (PICS)
on: September 22, 2011, 01:26:23 AM
Alright this probably is not as exciting as you may think, but for me it is a great thing. I have always wanted to EDC a full size MT but they were just to tall. When I would EDC a full size MT it would fall and rest in my pocket horizontally and be very uncomfortable. Well I have been thinking about this for some time now and after talking to RSJAKE94 I decided to do a test run. I sewed a simple running stitch into the pocket of my pants as to make a separate slimmer pocket that would hold the MT vertical. I did a single running stitch but decided to do a second set next to it as to enhance durability. Let me remind you I have not sewed in 10 years and this was just a quick stitch.  :D Everything worked out well and if after a week or so of testing it is something I want to keep I will sew it with something more substantial. The only problem I have experienced so far is the other portion of the pocket is just a bit tight to get my hand in to grab my keys. I can open up the top of the stitch which should solve the problem.

I had to do something very similar the other day but to the corner of the pocket where I'd developed a hole  :-[

I should have done this whilst I had the thread out.  Its not like I don't permanently carry a SAK, I could have made it a little home of its own :D
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

I was almost afraid to even open this thread capt. But I said what the heck. That's a good idea. I might do something similar but add a reinforced pocket to the spot where my SAK sits.
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

After a day of carrying the Swiss Tool in the "new pocket" I have to say I am very satisfied and might be doing this to all my pants.  :D

And to think the roll of quarters used to be the trick, now we're using multitools! Hey, time to get that Surge, after all it's the size of the trunk that matters!  >:D

Well my back pockets are not the same as my front pockets as the do not have the actual "pocket" inside the pants. If you were to do it to the back you would see the stitch.

That's how I used to keep my Skeletool clipped in my pocket - good idea for holding items in place that don't have a pocket clip  :tu:

Thank you. And to think I was going to just go to a PS4 to lighten the load. Now i'm carrying a Swiss Tool.  :D I actually feels lighter than my Juice C2 when in the "pocket."

Oh, I thought I'd posted here earlier  obviously not

Nice work Capt  :tu: One of my "when I get round to it jobs", is something slightly similar - a fabric pocket sheath. Basically a false pocket liner with the mod done, rather than an actual trouser modification. Also means similar set ups can be switched around without unpicking and restitching every evening  ;)

Saves wearing holes in the pocket too  :tu:

I don't think I really understand what you are trying to explain. I understand you would be making a separate pocket sheath but how would it keep the MT from falling?

That would be the other tools in the other pockets of the same sheath  ;)
Basically a pocket width sheath with let's say Vic Spirit, SAK and torch side by side in different sections, each keeping the other upright. Apologies for not making that bit clear  :-[

O alright. So it would basically be a multiple pocket sheath that would be the size of your whole pocket. Great idea.  :tu:

Thanks, not actually my idea I've seen it (or similar) done before. It does mean drawing the sheath to draw/stow the tool unlike your scheme, but still stops the sag and clatter that you would get otherwise

I like my Dickies relaxed fit jeans as they have a pocket on the right calf. Perfect spot where I been carrying a Skeletool and flashlight, and/or cell phone.

So you fellas going to create pocket organizers and patent/sell them? You'd start a new nerdy fad!

If it were a leather sheath with rigidity you could draw and stow without removing the sheath.  :tu:

Well that was my first thought, but will the rigidity be uncomfortable

A canvas option would be hard wearing yet give some flex and move with you to an extent. I moved from thinking about leather to a prototype from some old denim jeans - unfortunately my old archenemy (time) has the upper hand at the moment so it's condemed to the to do list. I think leather would be nice if it was hinged OR moulded veg tan pockets on something like a kangaroo skin backing to allow each section to bend againts the next

The having to draw it first doesn't seem to stop the MaxPed EDC Pouch carriers, so thius could be a nice cheap and easy option. Someone needs to prototype this and send me a freebie as commision  :P

Your right it would most likely be uncomfortable. I'm thinking it could be done with leather comfortably, but it would take a bit of time and experience in leather working which I certainly do not have.  :D

This reminds me of Ted and Bill.Bill wasn't having much luck getting girls at the beach.Ted advised him to put a potato in his swim trunks.Later in the day Ted asked Bill how the potato was working and Bill said the girls were screaming and running away.Ted looked down and told Bill it would work better if he put the potato in the front of his swim trunks.Sorry...I couldn't help myself.

Why don't you just sew a sheath to your jeans? :D

Your pants mod essentially positions the MT in much like a suspension clip does, but you don't have a clip showing on the outside of your pocket.  Nice.
