Any news on the Byrd Tern?
on: September 24, 2011, 09:19:17 PM
Does anyone know when the Tern is going to be available? Has there been some info I missed? I really liked the looks of it ever since it was announced back in March, a more affordable version UKPK and I actually like the lines of this one better than the UKPK. Sal Glesser said this summer, some vendors including Blade HQ have it marked as Expected August 2011! But we're at the end of September and so far I haven't seen it in stock anywhere. It should run at about $25

I'd completely forgotten about this one myself.  No idea when it's due, but very interested to hear if anyone knows. :)

I'm looking forward to this!I love the idea of a Spydie Squeek or a UKPK,but the prices are a wee steep. The Tern follows the styling but with Byrd value for money!Hope it comes soon!HandyNIcknacks say they'll have stock next week :ahhh
There is no beginning,or ending, and for this we are thankful, cos now is hard enough to understand!

Looks like a sweet blade.  I like the Byrd knives, I keep a Cara Cara in my EDC bag.  Hefty knife but strong and reliable.

Big advantage (for me anyway) is that this looks to be a full flat ground blade, unlike the FRN UKPK.  Hopefully will cost a little less as well. :)

Great news, but personally I'm not willing to pay more for the shipping than the knife. ::)  Guess I'll just have to wait until it lands in the UK shops.

If I remember correctly when they were first announced Handyniknaks had them listed at £32 or a bit more (that's about $50 right?) I'll wait till it hits eBay, The shipping should be around $5 judging by the weight. Or we could ask Marc at EDCdepot to get a few, he deals with spydies and byrds and I know he did such things before. He also has super cheap shipping.

looks pretty good, I like some of those other prototypes, esp. the 'manbug' ie. slightly larger version of the ladybug.  ::)

With a full flat ground VG-10 blade rather than the sabre grind of the standard Ladybug or hollow grind of the H-1 Ladybug.  Also, G-10 and metal bolsters.

I just found comparison pics of UKPK, Tern, Squeak and Grasshopper and a short video of the Tern (in german) on a german knife forum.

It's a bit shorter than the UKPK but has a thicker and longer backspring. I like that a lot. :tu:

OK, I think this is definitely going on my wish list.  I'm going to wait until some UK shops have it though, hopefully Heinnie will have it soon. :)

There's a first eBay sighting too.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Spyderco-BY23GP-Byrd-Tern-Folding-Knife-/270865096819?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f10d16073

$20,99 + $12.95 international shipping. I'll wait for some seller with more reasonable shipping charges.

Now in stock at Heinnie's.

http://heinnie.com/product.asp?strParents=&CAT_ID=0&P_ID=7244

sadly now just a little too close to Christmas to go spending penny's on myself.  :-\  Added to my Amazon Wish List though so maybe someone else will buy it for me. ::)
