84mm alox back tools
on: September 28, 2011, 01:57:27 AM
I've noticed that the 84mm alox scales seem to be the same pattern as regular 84mm celidor. Can anyone confirm or deny. Thanks.
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

84mm cellidor and alox knives have the same frame dimensions and are built using the same tools/blades/springs if that's what you mean. So yes, it is possible to have back tools like the awl, corkscrew, etc, on an 84mm alox knife. The factory has never done it to my knowledge, but lots of modders have.

The fly in the ointment is that Alox scales lack the 4th pin that holds the spine tool type back springs in place. OK, two flies...you'll also have to make your own cut-out in the scales for the Phillips/corkscrew.

Apparantly Victorinox had build a 84mm alox knife with a corkscrew long ago, I had seen a foto. It was a blue 1-layer knife with a main blade and a small blade and the corkscrew on the backside (and a cutout in one scale). If I remember correctly it had smooth scales and an advertising on the front scale.

Can I ask; why the rant? ???

As far as I'm concerned it's a perfectly reasonable question to ask of people who know about Victorinox products in general, no need to have taken one apart to know the answer.

As to the Moderators, don't worry, we know what we're doing. ;)

My apologies to Ryan for the lack of bees :D

Edit: I should point out that this was a trial mod. I didn't pull apart some ultra rare back-tooled 84mm alox SAK  :ahhh :)

I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

Has anyone tried to put Wenger 85mm tools into a Vic 84mm SAK?  That would be a cool addition!

The middle pin is the problem.

Thanks for the info guys. I am going to mod it up since the one I have is kinda rough. It will have added scissors and maybe something extra. I'll post it up in the mod squad when I start/finish it. :tu:
