I tried to offer something like a $40 discount to fair market value on an item for $16 worth of missing parts.  He then tells me straight up because it's not the exact model he's looking for he's unwilling to pay a more than what a substantially cheaper model of SAK is worth.

Sorry, very bad form and frankly kinda insulting.

I do not agree on the "insult or bad form."  No money or items were exchanged, right?  Just because a deal was not agreed upon, that does not warrant negative feedback.

I just made a deal with CARLB and in a couple of minutes he sent the funds to my PP.

So I give him a  thumb-up

I see this a lot on forums and am shocked when I hear about this  :o

If someone offers something for sale at a price of their choosing I also think it is bad form to comment on what they want to pay.

I want to pay £1 for a Charge TTi; guess what? It ain't going to happen but I'm not going rant to Leatherman on what their multitools are worth  ::)

You don't like the price then move on. Most of the time prices here are well below their true market value anyway so to low ball for more is a very cheeky move  :twak:

However, what one man sees as bad practice another sees as just 'doing business'. I think most on here sell on here so their stuff goes to a good home  :D I think there are quite a few pieces that have done their share of travelling  :tu:

I get PMs all the time for offers below what my sales price is.  Sometimes I decline, sometimes I counter, but I always keep it private when it was done via "Private Message."

That's what feedback is for I suppose.

That's what feedback is for I suppose.

Under the first topic "purpose of the feedback forum," mention was made to report on trades gone awry.  In the case here, it seems as though someone was offended by a low offer.  Yet, no trade (or sale) actually occurred.

I often price my items at something like 25%-50% less than the price I paid. But I often get notified that my price is higher than the going rate on, let's say, amazon.  So, I check it out and then either have to beat amazon's price or pull the item altogether if I am to take too much of a hit.

I believe in the the spirit of "it doesn't hurt to ask." If you don't ask, the answer is always "no."
But, if you ask, the answer could be "yes, no or let's work something out!"

And, after all, we are not making a million bucks here...just tryin to get something you are not using into the hands of someone that will use it for a decent, agreed upon price or trade!

It also says 'Need to give someone a pat on the back? Having a problem with someone? Post here and share the good, the bad and the ugly'  :D

In jekostas's opinion he felt it best to mention his experience here. If everyone kept things private in PM's we wouldn't know who were shining stars and who were one's to watch.

As neither you nor I 'have a dog in the fight' we should probably let this one fizzle out :)

Fair enough, except I was just picking up for carlb as I just made a deal with him today that was A+ and the purpose of my original reply.
