@mods:
If you choose to move to the review section, please feel free to do so!Some things have reached perfection.
Some dont.
Knifes from Victorinox have, in my opinion.
So if theres a special run of Climbers with a damascus blade, you have to take a look!
My personal favourite for a long time has been the Climber, a three-layer knife, basically a Spartan with an additional layer, housing the scissors and the multi-purpose-hook.
The Victorinox scissors are best in business, also my oppinion. No matter which size the knife is, the scissors mean serious business.
On to the Damascus Limited Edition:
Replace the main blade with a beauty made from damaststeel, tune up the liners and mount some ebony scales.
That simple ;-)
After the „facelift“ you will get this:
(Granted, you will loose the T&T, toothpick & tweezers, but honestly, do you miss them on a specimen like this?)
The Damascus LE comes in a presentation-grade box, which earns its name:
(The first times I looked at it, I thought the window to be glas, but its high quality plasitc. No cheap stuff here.)
The Victorinox-shield is flawlessly mounted into the ebony scales, swiss craftsmanship at its best:
Brothers in arms, Climber & LE :
If you look closely you´ll see that the liners have a more finished look than the standard ones.
The presentation-box contains the usual maintenance instructions as well as a letter of authenticity:
(Comes in different languages too!)
According to the certificate, the main blade is hardened to 60 Hrc, which is quite harder than the usual mounted blade, which will rather bend than snap.
Given the fact that the potential buyer of a LE will more likely know what this knife is capable of I see no breakages in the near future ;-)
The standard blade will take more abuse (my assumption), but honestly, are you going to put a beauty like this thruogh its paces?
I won´t... YMMV.
And thats my only „beef“ with the LE, its a beauty, I can´t see myself actually using it, its for viewing pleasure only ;-)
Production marks under the corkscrew...?
What the h...wait!
There are none, its the serialnumber!
Made in 2011, number 2328 of 4000.
I just realised that looking at the pictures, while taking them it didn´t catch my eye.
There´s a sticker on the package (not on the box itself), stating the serialno. and year of manufacture, but I would have expected it to be on the blade, rather than on one of the liners...
How about that?
Some AWOL, but thats mostly the family...
Black is beautiful:
From my point of view, SAK´s are the quintessential users, considering the „bang for the buck“. Tools in the best of sense.
The LE is a different animal.
Its as capable as its cousins (may be even more so, considering the „better“ blade), but honestly, it would be a shame, if it gets lost or broken.
Get a production Climber for the ugly things and admire the LE, its quite a looker ;-)
