Flik and the MP600, mod fodder...help!
on: October 10, 2011, 12:22:54 AM
I have one more pair of Paul Chen Multitasker shears. I've already made a pair of MP600 ninja shears (http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,31405.msg521418.html#msg521418) I want to see if I can make the ultimate shear MT, and my idea of a perfect one is a BO tool :)

Can someone please see if the plier heads from a MP600 will fit into a Flik or a Freehand? If so, the shear heads will drop into either.

I imagine the Freehand is the bigger of the tools and therefore would be a better candidate.

The Freehand is too big. :-\ The channel in the handle is MUCH larger than the Paul Chen shears would need.

The Flik however, has just the right size channel. :)

But the Flik itself is so short, the tips of the shears would stick out about 3/8" (10mm) Which is okay I guess, but just so ya' know... :salute:
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

Some comparison pics:

Paul Chen handle channel is same size as Flik

But spring pin groove on Paul Chen is much longer than Flik

Tips of Shears would stick out if they were transplanted into Flik :-\

Damn!

I could do without the stubby drivers, I would remove them all together. I was really looking for the outside opening tools. I wonder if there is any way I could extend the channel with some extra material.

Hrmm.....*brain churning burnt smell*

Bob, any chance you can show me the Freehand so I can see how much bigger the channel is?

It maybe easier to make a spacer for the freehand than it would be to extend the channels on the flik. Also, if there is more room on the freehand, it maybe possible to hide the torsion spring on the inside of the tool instead of mounting it to the outside like the GOHONS.

I know, i am resurrecting an old thread.
But googling over Freehand/Flik comparison pics, i stumbled over our beloved forum quite a few times.

Metropolcity, is this project still in the Back of your hand?
I do have a Gerber BO Freehand that coudl maybe be the right candidate for your experiments.
I can do some pictures, not owning a Flik or Paul chen - What comparison tool would be of use?
Will a MP 600 do?

So, sorry again for Zombifying, but seeing Metropol doing his Magic is well worth it, i guess.

Every time I look for a freehand, it eludes me. What do you want the BO freehand for?
