just good solid simple tools, you either love or hate them , one hand opening pliers are quite handy

Terry -  :twak:  :D

Very nice, Dunc!  :tu:  I love the MP400/600 series.  Need to get one of those BO 400's to go with my two BO MP600s....

Chrissy - What Dunc said, simple, reliable tools.  When I first got into MT's, I stayed away from Gerbers.  Nine slidey heads later, I'm definitely a convert.  :tu:

Oooh err  :-[

:D

Actually I did at a meet up or two. I like the sliding pliers thing just never got sold on the tools. I heard much talk on the stubby driver syndrome, but perhaps that doesn't apply to all of them. Your new one with pointy pliers appeals quite a lot :)

Did they make any without locking blades?

Or you could get a MP400 and MP450 and cross breed them like me, Gareth and Kirky did  :D

I did see a nice BO MP400 a while back at a decent price, but I didn't get it as I couldn't find a 450 at a similar price to do the necessary cut and shut  >:D

I have four non-locking Gerbers in the collection.  Two of them are old-school Mr. Pinchy types.  They have the flick out pliers you expect from a Gerber, but they bite!  :ahhh  My first one of that type got me within 15 minutes of opening the package.  >:(  Another non-locking Gerber is the MPT, which is a butterfly type tool.  The fourth is the Balance, which has pliers that slide out, but not with a flick of the wrist.  You use a thumb operated slide to deploy them.  I just got the Balance yesterday, but I've been playing with it and have to say I do like it.  The slide is just as addicting to operate mindlessly as the flick out pliers.  :) There's something soothing about just fidgeting with a slidey Gerber, despite what people annoyed by the sound might think.....  :P

Sorry , didn't realise the Balance was non locking , might be worth a closer look

One thing to note is the MP400 doesn't have a hard wire notch and the cutters can be damaged if you try to cut too tougher wire. That being said they are excellent for electrical wire.

Ive noticed gerbers seem to be more popular with you UK folks than other places.  I wonder if it's do to the leathermans costing so much more over there they dont get bought as much as gerbers?  (this is assuming gerbers are cheaper than leathermans there) I tried 3 gerbers so far and they arent my cup of tea, but I see they for sure have they're fans.

Nah, we're just all of a superior intellect ... or is it because we're all bonkers ... or both ... or maybe just more open minded  Whatever it is, I'm pretty sure (though not 100% convinced) that we are very decisive  :tu:

 :P

From my perspective, I just find that on many tools Leatherman win the popularity contest, but Gerber genuinely makes the better tool. Dime beats Squirt, Balance beats Juice S2, MP400 & Strata beats Wingman/Sidekick. I've owned neither the Grappler nor the Crunch, but forced to take one it would be the Gerber. I'd still take a Wave or Charge AL over a MP600 though  :)

I need someone to sell me on Gerbers :)

I'd make it the 425 John, we're meant to be talking her INTO Gerbers  ;) :D I think it's fair to say the old Mr Pinchies are an acquired taste, and I can see Chrissy not being too convinced by the blood blisters   :P :D :D :D
