Scale help
on: October 11, 2011, 01:05:59 AM
Hi all,
Im back, and I have a question.  I recently got some ruby plus scales for my old economy camper.  I did a test on the scales and the front scale is fine, but the liner/pins on the back scale make it fit very loose. I will have to use some glue.  So my question is, What kind of glue should I use to avoid ruining the translucent scales?

Thanks in advance,
Agent X68

Clear epoxy. Just a very small dab. Do not use super glue as it will seep into the pins.
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

Is there a specific brad you would recommend?  Also, would model glue for windows be okay?  It is formulated to not damage the clear window plastic, but I am not sure how strong it is.

Model glue mmmmm I'm no expert but you might want to try it on the old  scales first to see if it melts/deforms the plastic in any way. Loctite brand is what I use.

Please excuse spelling and grammer errors as I am slightly smurfed!

Model glue(as in plastic kits such as Revell or Monogram)is a solvent formulated for non expanded polystyrene(try it on expnded polystyrene:excellent fun).It will not bond to metal.Cant comment on it fogging Ruby scales, but it can damage clear styrene.
There is no beginning,or ending, and for this we are thankful, cos now is hard enough to understand!

Goop is recommended by many if you can get it (pain in the bum to get in the UK though).

Whatever you use make sure its its no or low solvent and remember you're not trying to use it as an adhesive more as a gap filler under the lip of the bushings, so tiny tiny amount.
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.
